Homemade Oreo-Style Cookies (A Farmers Market Favorite!)
You were right! We made Oreos… and they’re incredible. These soft, rich chocolate cookies with a creamy, just-sweet-enough cream cheese filling are hands down one of my family’s favorites. I used to make these growing up and now I make them for my own family
They’re easy to make, nostalgic, and guaranteed to disappear fast. Here's how to make them:
🍫 Cookie Ingredients
2 boxes Devil’s Food cake mix
4 eggs
¾ cup oil
👩🍳 Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs and oil.
3. Add the cake mix and stir until fully combined. The dough should be soft but not sticky — you should be able to pinch it without it leaving any residue on your fingers.
4. Scoop and roll the dough into small balls, place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
5. Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until cracks start to appear on the tops.
6. Transfer to a cooling rack (I love the stackable ones from Amazon!) and let cool completely before filling.
🍥 Cream Cheese Filling
1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
1 tsp milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
A dash of salt
3–4 cups powdered sugar (adjust to your preferred sweetness)
Tip: If you forget to let the cream cheese soften, just place the sealed package in a bowl of warm water for about 10 minutes.
1. In a mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth.
2. Add milk, vanilla, and salt.
3. Slowly mix in powdered sugar until the filling is fluffy and sweetened to your taste.
💡 To Assemble:
-Match up cookies by size.
-Spoon or pipe the cream cheese filling onto the flat side of one cookie, then sandwich it with another.
-These cookies are a hit every time. Whether you’re baking them for a crowd or keeping a secret stash for your family, they’re bound to bring smiles!
