There are different kinds of people in this world. One clear way I notice it is in how they pay their property taxes. Which one are you?

I pay my taxes as soon as I receive the bill in October so I don’t have to worry about forgetting.

I pay it at the end of December so it’s recorded in the same calendar year.

I wait until the last week of February so the payment arrives at the Trustee’s office as late as possible - I like keeping my money as long as I can.

Strange things we have found.

1. We discovered a lady had built an oversized garage with an apartment, on her neighbors land.

2. We found a house had been sold and conveyed 4 times over 40 years and it was the wrong house.

Be careful what title search company you trust. We are human but our searchers on average have 20+ years experience. We have not seen it all, but we have seen most of it. We can plot legal descriptions. We can actually go to the court house to find what others can't. I

I was almost arrested.

We were completely digital before digital was cool. Around 20 years ago, a register of deeds called the county sheriff on me. I was in a court house with a wand scanner retrieving docs from an old bound book.

Suddenly, a sheriff came behind and grabbed my shoulders. I remember in his deep, rough voice said, "What are you doing?" Then said, "You are going to stop or I will take you out of here."

I explained what was happening and finally the sheriff relented. The ROD never liked me from that point forward. She seemed to never understand what I was doing. Eventually, she retired and was replaced by a younger person with whom I became great friends.

Some people call title searchers relics of the past. Nope, we still exist and are the ones handling the hard stuff. We are the real deal.

Can you imagine?
