It’s a little early for cherries in Wisconsin, but the other perk about living in Wisconsin is you can always get a couple pounds of frozen Door County Cherries at the market! Made with a cornmeal crust, topped with a classic oat crumble and finished with an ever-so-slightly sweetened tart cherry filling. Mom approved.

It’s rhubarb season! If I could dig up a photo of me with a blue-black bob with a gigantic bowl of chopped rhubarb circa 2005/06 you would know my love runs deep! Friends! It’s baking season and we’re gearing up! But we’re also getting to know a very fussy, very old, electric 😔 oven in our new 😃 home! We MOVED! This season will be mail order only with maybe one or two special Chicago order fulfillments! Es and I finally made it to Wisconsin where fields and forests are all around, and orchards are only a stone’s throw away!

We made our first trip to Star Orchard in Kaukana, who have 55 varieties (and new seedlings abound) to get our first haul. The women there are fabulous and are anxious for next weekend’s varieties to ripen.

To start testing this oven (yes, internal digital and laser read thermometers are on order - if not just finding a better used electric oven myself) I am working on reworking my Versunkener Apfelkuchen sans alcohol and also seeing how I can give the classic just an *little* more depth.
