Lots more to come
First batch of cookies have arrived at the National Hellenic Museum. Thanks for all the calls. Please contact the museum for details and store hours. Products will be sold on a first come first served basis.
Season's Greetings to all! We are happy to announce that although we do not have a retail location at this time, we will be baking this holiday season. The National Hellenic Museum will retail our classic Christmas cookies and other select pastries starting on Tuesday, December 19th. We'll have more information for you in the coming days. Stay tuned and please share if you think someone may find this useful.
After 43 years we will be moving from our current location. Our last business day will be this Sunday, Mother's Day. Many longtime small, family owned businesses in Chicago have closed recently but this is not the case so we want to emphasize that this is not a goodbye.
We will be back at a new, better and bigger location continuing to offer the best in Greek baked goods and pastries. We will also be adding food items to our menu. This is something that we've wanted to do for a long time but we were restricted in our current space in this now run down building.
We're going to take the summer off while we develop our menu and start building our new business from the ground up. We need a bit of a rest so we'll be travelling but also taking classes, learning new recipes and methods in order to come back even better.
To close will be emotional for us, indeed. We've literally spent our lives at this address and poured our hearts in to our work but it has given us so much in return. We've cultivated the most amazing customer base. With the best taste in food! The relationships and friendships made in this little shop are so precious to us. To put it simply is to take a line from the Beatles song, "The End":
"And in the end
The love you take
Is equal to the love you make"
That's why we'll be back, because it's worth it and it's all that matters. We'll keep this page going and update it with news and information when we have it. Our phone number will be remain operational as will our email: [email protected]. We may also be available for catering and special events.
Thank you to all that have stood by us as they are too many to name. Again, this is not a farewell. With all our love and admiration we wish you a great spring and summer and we'll be back up and running be before you know it. Please share.
Helen, Athena, James and staff
Happy Easter to all. We're amazed that so many still make the effort to visit us for their holiday baked goods and pastries even though we stand alone, almost abandoned, surrounded by empty storefronts. We really appreciate the effort you put in to visit. We hope we reciprocate according to expectations. We'll be open on Easter Sunday from 10am to 4pm with a full rack of fresh tsourekia available on a first come first served basis. Please share this post as many were disappointed that we ran out early today.
We just wanted to update our Easter weekend hours which are: today, Saturday, the 15th we'll be open until 6pm. Easter Sunday hours are 10am to 4pm. Also, we will not be taking more orders for pickup today or tomorrow. Last note, we are completely out of diples (Δίπλες) unfortunately. We can only make so many. Happy Easter to everyone and thanks as always for your support.
Easter for both western and eastern calendar Churches is the same day this year! We'll be double busy baking our famous tsoureki sweet breads, easter koulourakia and catering trays of spanakopita, moussaka, pastitsio and our popular loukaniko sausage. Place your orders early for easy in and out pick up OR shipping to anywhere in the US. Remember, temporary parking is readily available for our shop using our loading zone and our spaces behind the building accessed from Van Buren.
We've also received our shipment of Lambades (Easter Candles), that are hand decorated and each and every one is unique. Available for boys and girls, they're absolutely lovely.
Tomorrow is the beginning of the Orthodox Lenten Period. "Clean Monday" or Kathara Deutera marks the beginning of the 40 day period leading up to Easter. For those observing the fast and the holiday we'll be offering the traditonal Lagana bread, many olive oil based, non dairy sweets and savories and we'll introduce our version of taramosalata. Made with all our own ingredients, it features a salmon fish roe that is unprocessed. Doors open at 9 and the first breads should be ready then. Please share this post. Thank you! ΚΑΛΗ ΣΑΡΑΚΟΣΤΗ.
Vasilopita Update: Due to the volume of calls regarding our New Year's cake and breads, we recommend you give us a call and reserve one if your planning on coming in. We'll be churning them out all day but we can only make so many and would hate to turn anyone away empty handed. Remember we're making both the bread (tsoureki) version and the cognac cake version. Both are made with PLUGRA butter, fresh oranges, Metaxa, mastiha, mahlepi and all have a coin baked in. Enjoy your weekend everyone.
We've had many calls asking about availability of moussaka trays, full and medium size and Pastitsio trays. We'll be taking orders over the phone for pickup today and tomorrow. We can also bake them if you would prefer. This holds true for the spanakopita and tiropita app size trays.
And for those who are wondering, yes, we will be open on New Year's Day from 11 to 5 for walk ins and order pick ups.
We wish you all a happy and safe New Year's Eve and day!
We at Pan Hellenic Pastry Shop would like to wish each and every one of you and your families a merry Christmas and a happy holiday season. Health and happiness above all. Thank you all for your continuous support!
Wishing each and every one of you a happy and festive holiday season! Shipping for Christmas Eve delivery will end on Tuesday, December 20 at 4pm. That is the cutoff guaranteeing shipment by the weekend at the most competitive price. Please, give us a call to place your orders and give the gift of Melomakarona and Kourabiedes this Christmas season! Not a bad idea, right?
Happy December to all! We are gearing up for the holiday season here at Pan Hellenic. Keep us in mind to give your parties a Greek flair with pans of homemade Moussaka, Pastitsio, Spanakopita, Tiropita and our Orange Rind Loukaniko (sausage for those who are not familiar). This along with our wide array of traditional pastries and biscuits will make your contribution a success at any party. Give us a call and place your order.
Thanksgiving is upon us! It seems that Spanakopita and Tiropita have entered into the realm of traditional appetizers for this wonderful culinary holiday. We offer two versions: the appetizer size pies which come frozen in a tray of 24 (of course we can bake them for you) and the fuller catering tray version which is cut and serve. We offer a half pan which serves 12 to 16 and the full sheet which serves 25 to 30 people. Of course, it's all made in our kitchen here at the shop so consider them and our other products for your Thanksgiving Day dinner.
Frozen trays are usually on hand but due to high demand during the holiday season, please give us a call to reserve the version that works best for you! Ask us about our other ready to bake food options before we even get to talking about pastries.
Thanks to everyone for your support and from our family to yours: Happy Thanksgiving!
Honored to represent Greek desserts on this list!
