SUMMER SWEET 🌼 Have I mentioned how much I love weddings at the Chicago Botanic Garden gardens? It’s one of my favorite places period, we are so lucky to have one of the most incredible botanic gardens in the world right in our backyards. And to be able to get married there? The literal icing on the cake.

For Alexa & Cody last weekend - perfect weather, a bright and cheerful color palette, and a 5 tier cake to feed the masses. Congratulations to you both!! 🥂🍾🍰

SPRITZ 🍊 A spritz themed bridal shower calls for a yummy citrus color palette, peak summer sugar flowers, and extra fun details with scallop shaped tiers and orange pinstripes.

NEW CLASSES! 🌼 Come expand your sugar flower repertoire this winter at Flourish Cake Design! I will be offering two different three-day classes, guiding you through my techniques to craft flowers you may not have seen tutorials for elsewhere and my tried and true methods for the classics that are requested time and time again. We will focus on paper-thin petals, movement both within the flowers and throughout the arrangement on a cake, often overlooked ‘filler’ flowers, and the color journey of a sugar petal/leaf. This class is designed for cake artists with previous gum paste experience, but all levels are welcome.

WATERCOLOR DREAMS 🎨 A very happy belated anniversary to MacKenzie & Daniel! The Table Cake 🌾 Officially on the long table cake bandwagon! But doing it my way with a vertical wildflower medow growing down the center. The sugar flowers for this cake, inspired by the team at THIRD SEASON were one of the most fun combos I’ve had this year. Flame lilies, snake ball alliums, oncidium orchids, bright orange cosmos, anthurium lilies, and delphinium standing tall and swaying in the breeze, anchored by some butter yellow phal orchids, creamy dahlias, and trailing amaranth.

The best part of a 3.5 foot long cake? There are 5 different flavors inside for maximum guest enjoyment.

Classics Reimagined 💭 Who says you can’t have traditional with a twist? Adding some beautiful and slightly modern sugar flowers to this very traditional delicately-piped cake, took the design to another level in my opinion. Hanging amaranth, dusty sweet peas, olive branches touched with gold, hellebores, ranunculus, and a big ol’ dahlia, all hand-crafted in sugar took this cake from classic to stunner. I can’t wait to see all the pro photos from this beautiful day in northern Wisconsin earlier this month, but you know i can never resist a peek of the cake on its own.
