Made some last minute Horse TangHulu Macarons for a friend's Chinese New Year Celebration.
I am Chinese, I had said Happy Lunar New Year for 20 years of my life but I want to represent my culture more. From now on, don't judge me for choosing to say Chinese New Year and I won't judge you for not knowing your history. Can't hate us if you still use our traditions.
Chinese New Year originated in ancient China over 3,000 to 3,500 years ago, during the Shang Dynasty (c. 1600โ1046 BC). Initially, it was an agrarian tradition used to mark the end of winter and the beginning of spring, often involving ceremonies to honor gods and ancestors.
๐งจFirecrackers was invented by the Chinese. Correction, China invented the first versions of gun powder, which was used for firecrackers. The rest of the world took it and invented fireworks, guns, canons and other destructive weapons.
Our Chinese lion dance? It originated over 1,000 to 2,000 years ago, with early forms dating back to the Han (205 BCEโ220 CE) or Tang Dynasties.
I support the term Lunar New Year, but I stand by my own culture at the end of the day. Happy Chinese New Year!๐งง๐งง๐งง
