Leonard, Penny, And Sheldon Are Responsible For Stuart's Character Faults
When Stuart Bloom first appears in “The Hofstadter Isotope” on The Big Bang Theory, he’s actually confident, funny, and charming enough to ask Penny out—and she says yes.

But by Season 12, Stuart is almost a completely different person: awkward, depressed, and socially desperate.

Most people assume the writers simply changed the character. But what if Stuart’s downward spiral actually makes sense within the story?

Think about how things went for him.

Leonard Hofstadter secretly sabotages Stuart with bad advice about dating Penny—because he has a crush on her himself.
Penny later uses Stuart’s feelings to get what she wants, like when she asks for Stan Lee’s contact information and agrees to attend a wedding with Stuart only if Leonard can come too.

And then there’s Sheldon Cooper.

After Stuart’s first successful date, Penny invites him inside for coffee—clearly things are going well. But Sheldon barges in and derails the moment with a pointless debate about who should replace Bruce Wayne as Batman.

After that point, Stuart slowly becomes the sad, desperate version of himself we see later in the series.

Maybe it wasn’t just bad luck.

Maybe hanging around Leonard, Penny, and Sheldon completely ruined him.
