There’s a reason comedians always have a joke about how awful their mother-in-law is - because it’s so relatable to so many people. Even though I laugh at the good ones, I couldn’t relate to any of them. When it comes to a mother-in-law, I won the damn lottery.
T’s mom, Patty, was one of the the kindest, most loving people I’ve ever had the pleasure to know. You may have even met her one of the times she surprised us at the market. She wasn’t just a mom, although she was amazing at that, but she was a best friend, too. She was thoughtful and selfless. She was everybody’s favorite confidant because you knew you could trust her with anything. She constantly did for others, never expecting anything in return. Every dog she ever encountered, loved her immediately and without fear - and you know that dogs are the ultimate judge of a person’s character. She was kind, but she also took no sh*t. She was the rock of that family. I say was because Patty passed away suddenly this past Monday. She was just 58 years old.
She was not ill. There was no warning. She made it through this pandemic not once testing positive despite being on the front line. She took every precaution and then some to protect the health of her family and high risk patients at the facility where she worked. In fact, we were able to spend her last day with her and she was perfectly fine. We had a wonderful time sharing stories, laughing at TikTok videos, and making plans for her upcoming birthday. To say that we are devastated would be an understatement. There are some things you will never get over, but somehow you find a way to make it through. That’s where we are right now.
Now, you may be reading this thinking, why is this business page sharing personal information that should be kept private? Well, we consider our community to be like our family. If you’re a regular at the market, we’ve told you that you are part of the BBTB family and we truly mean it. We also wanted to address the fact that we will no longer be offering Valentine’s specials that a small group of you were aware we were working on. And I also wanted to share the GoFundMe our son created to help the family with the medical and funeral expenses they were not expecting. Please do not feel obligated to donate, we know times are still tough for many of us, but even a share would help. Thank you to those who have made it to the end of this post. And thank you for being such a supportive family to us. We are closing up the shop for a bit, but we will definitely let you know when we’re back in the kitchen. Thank you, in advance for your support, and tell the folks you love that you love them because you never know how many more chances you’ll get.
Early on February 7th, just weeks before her 59th birthday, our loving wife, mother,… Benjamin Kennedy needs your support for Funeral Costs for Patty Sokolis
