We broke my birthday twin out of the shelter today for an adventure at Montgomery Bell State Park. Hoyt is available for adoption through the Humane Society of Dickson County.

Thank you to Kourtney's Kakes LLC for the pup cake he devoured and Local Supply for the pup cup.

Meet Leonidas aka “Leo”. Oh boy, does he just pull at your heartstrings. Leo is one of the longest residents at the Humane Society of Dickson County. He arrived at the shelter in August of 2021.

Leo is an American Bulldog mix with a given birthday of 08/19/16. He has a big personality and is one of the BEST huggers you will ever meet. It’s true when they say he has never met someone who didn’t melt right in his paws.

Leo loves a good treat and is a sucker for a good chew toy. Rubber balls and hard toys are his absolute favorite. He also can’t get enough of peanut butter filled Kongs. While Leo loves to play and run the day away, he is a big snuggler. His favorite past-time is getting good head scratches and belly rubs.

Today marks 365 days with our sweet girl Rita Mae. If you don’t know her story, she was abandoned by her family and roamed for 10 years until the amazing staff at the Humane Society of Dickson County finally caught her. Rita spent 485 days in the shelter. A year ago today she spent her last. Rita was so weary of humans. The staff at the HSDC brought her to our house to foster just to make sure she didn’t try to run away. We put a little fence up for her and still had her double collared and double leashed because we were so worried she might try to escape. It’s hard to choose just one picture or video to show how much progress she has made. This one has always been one of my favorites. It became a nightly thing for a while where she would throw a little tantrum because we wouldn’t let her eat in bed. It shows even the most feral dog can turn into quite the princess. We’ve had a lot of little big moments with Rita. It’s amazing what love and patience can do. While we didn’t officially adopt Rita until November, it was pretty clear right away she had already found her forever home. If you’re planning on adopting, please consider the ones that are overlooked. We can’t imagine our life without her.
