More exciting news... Teammate, Bill Horstman, is back on the bike! He made the trip with Steve to North Carolina last Saturday & tested out his legs by riding in the non-competitive 100 mile event. Superstar Teammate, Steve Johns, did it again!! THIS TIME AMIDST HURRICANE HELENE!! Steve completed the NATCHEZ TRACE 444 riding 444 miles, through 3 states in brutal conditions. The impact of Hurricane Helene was felt from Nashville, TN to Jackson, MS. Pouring rain, heavy winds, & 63 degrees for about 22 hours! Steve was accompanied by his AWESOME support team of Melinda & Zach Johns. Melinda reported the last 100 miles was pretty nice. Most of the riders stopped in the overnight to let the storm pass... NOT our Steve... he trudged on enduring these inclement conditions! Below Steve is pictured with the race director, George Thomas, pictured with his support team, Melinda & Zach Johns, & the most exciting picture for Steve- the COMPLETION of the Natchez Trace 444!! CONGRATULATIONS, Steve, on a job well done!! Way to represent INDY ULTRA CYCLING!!!

Friday (Day 6 of the RAGBRAI ride) saw more bean fields & HIGH temps for the Ragbrai boys! Today's ride started in Tama-Toledo continued for 82 miles (3303 ft of elevatioin) and concluded in Coralville. Near the town of Chelsea, the Ragbrai boys were briefly delayed at a train crossing as a train was traveling through. Morning pork chops and lemonade slushies once again provided sustenance. Passing through the town of Oxford, the fire department opened up a fire hydrant to offer the Ragbrai boys some much needed cool, soaking relief!! After cooling down in the RV AC upon reaching their destination of Coralville (thanks Don & Mark), the evening continued with a delicious meal ( & AC!!) at Foundry Food & Tap in Coralville. There was a little excitement later in the evening when the Tornado Sirens went off & all the campers had to seek shelter for a couple of hours in the designated parking garage across from the RV lot. Keegan even managed to protect a baby bird whose nest was blown over in the storm. Fortunately no tornados there but not far off were 90+ mph winds!!
