Richard Youngs, a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, has been receiving care at the Kansas City VA Medical Center since 1956, making him one of the facility's longest-standing patients and a living link to the VA's history of serving Korean War veterans.

In recognition of his service and his decades-long relationship with the medical center, Youngs recently received a letter and challenge coin from Secretary of Veterans Affairs Douglas A. Collins, presented on the Secretary's behalf by Jason Bortz, KCVA Public Affairs Officer. KCVA Director, Paula Roychaudhuri also honored Youngs with her own challenge coin during the presentation.

Youngs' story reflects the VA's enduring commitment to standing by veterans for life — not just in the years immediately following their service, but across a lifetime of care.

🌺🌴 ALOHA FROM THE CAMERON VETERANS HOME! 🌴🌺

We brought a little taste of the islands to the Home for our Luau Day! 🏝️☀️

Our Veterans and staff enjoyed a tropical day filled with colorful decorations, Hawaiian spirit, and of course, some delicious food! 🍍🌺 From Big Kahuna Hawaiian Pulled Pork and Paradise Pineapple Rice to fresh tropical fruit and Tropical Island Cake, our Dietary Team went all out to make the day extra special! 🌴🍉🍰

Days like this are about so much more than a meal. ❤️ They're about creating experiences, sharing smiles, making memories, and bringing a little extra FUN into the lives of the Veterans we are so honored to serve. 🇺🇸

A huge MAHALO to everyone who helped decorate, prepare the meal, dress for the occasion, and make our Luau such a wonderful day! 🌺🤙
