PSA! No pre-orders next week! But there WILL be sourdough treats Owl & Turtle Bookshop Cafe on Wednesday and Thursday, and the fan favorite Avocado Toast on my organic sourdough Buttermilk Kitchen at Marriners on Friday - so you can still eat sourdough and shop local.

Next pre-order drops on Sunday 8/30 for pickup on Friday 9/4.

08/18/2026

The foundation of my weekly pre-order menu are long fermented, organic grain, sourdough classics:

✨ bread - classic, seeded, and 50/50 whole wheat
✨ bagels - hand shaped, honey boiled
✨ cookies - dark chocolate chip sea salt, and ginger molasses
✨ Wild Maine blueberry muffins

As a one woman bakery, I’m learning that a limited menu allows me to meet demand, nourish my community and care for my family, while maintaining some semblance of sanity.

But rest assured - I get bored easily, so keep an eye out for specials, reach out if you ever need a (sourdough) celebration cake, and stop by Owl & Turtle Bookshop Cafe on Wednesdays and Thursdays for baker’s choice (sourdough) treats.

Pre-orders open at 10am on Sundays and closes Wednesday, or upon selling out.

Sometimes accidents make people happy.

This week I accidentally made my seeded loaves whole wheat. Normally they are 90% organic white bread flour and 10% organic whole wheat flour. But I did the opposite and didn’t notice until mixing - oops! So everything was off - but I had to role with it and hope for the best (and offer refunds anyone who was disappointed).

The result was a denser, nutty, tangier loaf - almost like a traditional seeded rye. Perfect alongside salad on the most gorgeous of Maine summer evenings.

Guess I’ll have to replicate and add it to the menu….perhaps baked in a loaf pan…

Grateful for my loyal, lovely and understanding customers who support and encourage me - one loaf at a time.

I haven’t stopped thinking about focaccia for the last few weeks - specifically the peach thyme focaccia from Fika down in S**o. So today is the day for my sourdough version - it’s light, airy and buttery - studded with fresh peaches and thyme from the garden.

There are a handful of slices today (Wednesday 8/13) Owl & Turtle Bookshop Cafe (along with blueberry muffins and chocolate chip cookies) - I hope you enjoy - and rest assured, there will be more focaccia in the future!

As always, everything is made with organic grains and long fermented.

For a moment, a day or a lifetime. As an interest, a hobby, a passion and/or career. Doing what you love *is* an act of resistance.

As we see the world around us break, and systems made to oppress - to turn creative beings (humans) into cogs to serve a world that doesn’t serve us in return - it is clear that we *need* to return to acting with intention, thought and care. We need to be in community, nourish, feed and support each other. We must speak up and out against injustice. We *must* find joy (even little glimmers). And then find some more. And some more.

Doing what you love (and helping others do the same) is an act of resistance.

We cannot solve the worlds’ problems with the systems that created them in the first place. So, pick up that paint brush, get your hands in some dough, tend that neglected garden, read that book, learn or play that instrument, sing that song, visit that neighbor - do it, and do it again, and with intention and with no.other.reason than because it *feels* good.

I’m really pleased to report that my consolidation experiment worked! And though scheduling will be a bit wonky over the next few weeks due to family engagements, I’m really thrilled with how today went and look forward to many more like it.

Today I baked, prepped and packaged….
* 32 loaves of bread
* 84 bagels
* 36 muffins
* 12 cookies
* 9 cake slices

All before 8am.

A beautiful bake, on a stunner of a Maine summer morning.

Thank you all. With gratitude (and a whole lot of sourdough),
Bridget

IMPORTANT BAKERY SCHEDULE UPDATE!

As any good business owner (errrr human on this journey called life) should do, I am constantly evaluating what works, what doesn’t, what can be improved, streamlined or optimized. Sometimes that takes time…years… to open our eyes to opportunities. And what better time to shake things up than on the day you mark another passage around the sun.

This coming week ALL SOURDOUGH BREAD, BAGELS AND BAKES will be fresh baked and available for pickup on FRIDAY (7/24).

If this little consolidation experiment of mine works, it means one less *very early* morning, one less dough day to manage, and most importantly one *more* day of rest and energy to be present with my family and work on new recipes and ideas.

Pre-order opens on Sunday at 10am via Hotplate link in profile 👆

In summary - BAKERY OPEN ON FRIDAYS ONLY (except for cakes and custom orders)

So fun to have some sunset colored flowers pop in the garden just in time for this 4 layer, fermented chocolate sourdough sponge cake (with vanilla buttercream).

It brings me so much joy to help good people celebrate in sourdough style.

Cheers to another trip round the sun, rivers of buttercream, and sunsets of flowers.
