Roxana Jullapat , expert on whole-grain baking and author of Morning Baker, will be visiting Sofra Allston on November 5th from 6:30 to 8:30pm along with her co-writer, Ari Smolin ! Roxana will demonstrate a handful of recipes from the book before joining some of Boston’s best bakers for a conversation about whole grains in baking. You’ll have the chance to enjoy a special breakfast-for-dinner buffet, featuring recipes from the book and then leave with a copy of your own.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our annual Makers Market on Sunday! The rain held off (mostly). As always, our vendors showed up with some amazing products and our staff showed off their skills for the pumpkin carving contest (congrats to our winner Marie, our Pastry CDC!) We loved creating a space to celebrate local artistry and delicious food—and we appreciate everyone who came to check it out. Until next year!

We hope you’ll join us in Allston on October 20th from 7-9pm for a celebration of Istanbul’s remarkable food culture and the release of a beautiful new cookbook. Born and raised in Türkiye and a longtime resident of Istanbul, Ozlem Warren brings the city’s vibrant culinary traditions to life through recipes and personal reflections. During the evening, Özlem will share stories from the book and demonstrate the preparation of a traditional spinach gözleme. Guests will enjoy tastings of several recipes from the book, including Yengen Toast, easy Manti, Turkish Mosaic Cake and more.

We are thrilled to welcome award-winning author Maria Speck on October 15th at Sofra Allston for a celebration of her latest cookbook, Baking with Ancient Grains!

Maria will demonstrate two recipes, her Oat & Maple Brittle and a Light Brioche Dough, followed by a conversation and interview with Andrew Janjigian. Sofra will prepare some of Maria’s recipes, including Sorghum Cornbread with Spiced Pecans, Carrot Top Pesto, Tomato-Mozzarella Pie with Spelt Brioche, Turmeric-Laced Salmon and Spinach Tart, Cretan Barley Rusk Salad, Orange-Scented Kamut Madeleines, and more. You’ll have the chance to taste these recipes and experience the delicious possibilities of baking with whole ancient grains.
