Chefs in Training Converge for Private Workshop at Random Acts of Breadness

This past Wednesday, a group of Culinary Arts Student Chefs and their instructor, Chef Wong (pictured on my right), traveled from Chaffey College in Chino, California, to Random Acts of Breadness in Burbank, to attend a private artisan sourdough workshop.

I was more than honored to show these student chefs how we make our organic, gluten-neutral sourdough breads. But more importantly, I shared with them some of the business aspects of starting their own retail food concept, should they wish to embark on such an adventure at some point in their culinary journey.

And I planted the seed that if they were totally passionate about what they were doing, they have a much better chance of being a success!

New Guitar Cutting Boards Accessible to All...

Some of the biggest names in the guitar world, like Fender and Gibson (whose premium instruments cost several thousand dollars), also make entry-level models to enable just about anyone to have a guitar experience at a more affordable price point. Fender makes the economical Squier line and Gibson has the Epiphone brand, which has been around for quite some time.

You've probably seen our beautiful Breadness RockStar Cutting/Serving Boards, either in person or in our online shop, but the premium price may have precluded you from buying one or more of these to give as gifts. Understandable...

I'm happy to announce that David, our master guitar cutting/serving board "luthier" (yes, he worked at Fender before starting his own artisan woodcrafting business), called a few weeks ago to tell me about a new, lower-cost guitar cutting/serving board he was working on. He sent me some photos and I agreed to purchase several of these to introduce to you!

The Breadness Medium Solid Oak Guitar Cutting/Serving Board is the same length as the RockStar (20") and is just a bit narrower. It's a great board for slicing our Artisan Sourdough Breads and Rolls, and/or using as a serving board for charcuterie or anything else deserving the spotlight on your table.

The aroma in the bakery is heavenly...

Little did I know that when I set about creating the foods for what has now been dubbed our "Keto Kollection," I'd be immersed in the heavenly aromas of caramelized sugar, but without sugar! And my latest creation is our Gluten-free, Grain-free, Lo-Carb Choco Chip Chookie!

Between the organic skinless almond flour from Yemetz Family Orchards and the non-GMO white and brown sugar replacements from Wholesome Yum called "besti," I'm having a blast playing with culinary chemistry in our micro-kitchen!

My next research project is Sugar-free Organic Almond Toffee (like brittle but not so brittle...) made with Yemetz Family Orchards organic skinless almonds, besti, butter and salt. I wonder what the aroma from that recipe is going to be like...

In the wake of Helene...

It's not often that we feature sad news in my posts, but one cannot ignore what has happened in the southeast region of our country with the massive storms unleashed upon that region. We have many friends and family living in the affected areas.

Fortunately, people from all over have taken the initiative in creating Facebook groups like this one for Clearwater, Florida, https://www.facebook.com/groups/523992793698215/ to help connect those who want to help with those in need.

I personally experienced hurricane Eloise in 1975 in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. It was quite frightening and the visible damage, like big, metal signs twisted to the ground by the winds, was unbelievable. But we survived to recover and tell the story. Perhaps the only good to come from Helene will be the stories of rescue, recovery and rebuilding.

Our prayers go out to all who have suffered from this freak of nature. May you find the strength to persevere...

Honey, I shrunk the Muffins (the sequel...)

The popularity of our recently introduced organic Low-Carb Blueberry Muffins was the inspiration for my idea to make these Blueberry Muff'n Pops!

Approximately 1/4 the size of our Jumbo Muffins, Muff'n Pops are a diminutive treat that's surprisingly satisfying!

Grab your coat and fuzzy hat; the temp's below 100 degrees!

OMG. Just in time for Sourdough September, the temperature in Burbank dropped over 25 degrees from the previous 7 days, down to a chilly 82! Could it be the next Ice Age is upon us?

And RAIN is predicted for 3 days next week. For real?

Time to dust off your "100 Soups & Stews" recipe book and throw another log on the fire. Oh, and don't forget some organic, artisan sourdough from Random Acts of Breadness!
