I don’t even know where to begin.
Watching our town endure something so devastating has been absolutely heartbreaking. Roads have been washed away. Families have had to be rescued from the roofs of their homes. Vehicles have been swept away. Businesses that people spent years building have suffered damage. Families have lost things that can never truly be replaced, and some are now facing the unimaginable task of figuring out where to go from here.
Over the next day or two, I’ll be putting together a dessert raffle, and every single dollar raised will be donated to local flood relief efforts. I spoke with a friend today who is helping coordinate our community’s emergency response, and tomorrow he’ll be connecting me with the area’s donations coordinator so I can make sure the funds go directly where they’re needed most. As soon as I have those details finalized, I’ll announce the raffle prize,price per entry, and how to enter.
This business has always existed because of this community. Through every holiday, every birthday, every celebration, you’ve supported my dream. Now I’d like to use that same support to help our neighbors who are facing one of the hardest moments of their lives. I also want to show gratitude to every first responder, member of the National Guard, emergency dispatcher, road crew, utility worker, volunteer, and neighbor who has stepped up over the last several days. To those who rescued families, cleared roads, worked tirelessly through the devastation, and continue putting others before yourselves, we see you, we appreciate you, and our community is better because of you.
Buckhannon has always been more than just a town. It’s neighbors helping neighbors, strangers becoming family, and people showing up when it matters most. Right now, our community needs us.
