It is both a spiritual and introspective time for me. It is a time to prioritize family, which is what I am doing for the next few weeks leading up to Mom’s funeral in the second week of April. Oh yes, and rest! I am paying attention to my need to be gentle on myself right now.

So I have family travel and gatherings over the next two weeks. I’ll be driving for part of it and flying for part — keeping my fingers crossed on that second mode of transportation! And then I’ll have the time to create the sourdough breads, baguettes, and sweet pastries and cookies for April 18. Thank you so much for your patience while we’re closed for now. We’re incredibly grateful for your support and can’t wait to welcome you back when we reopen!

Mom
I am heartbroken to announce the death of my mom, Joyce Mortt, on Thursday March 19. I am so grateful I was able to be by her side — it was both peaceful and profound.

Mom was a joy to be around. She was kind, loving, and took time to talk with and listen to her family, friends, and caretakers. She had a great sense of humor, especially clever witticisms. She had a beautiful singing voice and sang songs up to the end. She was strong in her faith.

Mom was my original baker. She made dozens of cookies, baked breads, buns, and cinnamon rolls, tried many desert recipes from the pages of magazines, and baked a lemon meringue pie every year for my dad’s birthday and the best tart apple pie spiced with nutmeg and baked in a perfectly flaky double crust. I know several of my baking techniques are still the way she taught me.

I am going to take some time of reflection prior to the funeral in April. We will be closed this weekend March 21 and 22 and I am figuring out the next few weeks. Thank you for your understanding ❤️.
