After I had my daughter in July of 2014, I found myself bored and lonely. One day, I received my monthly Food Network magazine and inside it had a small recipe book of 50 different cupcakes. I always enjoyed baking, but never really considered it a passion. Well, I decided to try to make as many recipes from that book as possible. After awhile, I found that I absolutely loved the precision of baking, how it helped calm my anxiety, and of course, the delicious end results. I started making desserts for all kinds of family events. Pretty soon, I was the designated baker in our family. Then, I started branching out. Friends of family would ask me to make a cake for a birthday, pie for a going away party, and even cupcakes for a wedding! At the time, I had started taking classes at Shoreline Community College to become a high school English teacher. I quickly found out that I couldn’t focus on my growing business as well as my schooling. That’s when I decided to start the baking program at Edmonds Community College. I never thought I could love school so much! Within the first quarter, I had already learned so much more than I ever could have imagined. I plan on being graduated by the end of next fall. My goal is to have my own store front in the next two to three years. My dream is to have a chill place in the Mountlake Terrace area for people to come enjoy delicious coffee and pastries. I plan on having live music on a regular basis, as well as open mic nights. I envision the walls being covered by art provided by artists from the community and available for purchase. Growing up in Brier, there never really was a place in the area for teens to hang out, and it was always a bummer for my friends and I. My dream is to provide a safe place for people of all ages to play board games, read books, and study.
