What can you get from a personalized class that you cannot get from watching videos on social media? These pictures demonstrate the difference. My two students were able to spend three hours with me for hands on learning about all things sourdough that was directed to their personal questions. They also both took home a loaf of sourdough bread, starter for future loaves and a recipe with tons of guidance. The two finished loaves here are by-products of their learning only as I forgot to take photos of what they created, baked and took home.

One thing I love about baking is creating treats that fit each person's needs. This batch had no gluten and was dairy-free, but was still full of flavor - think lemon, berries, and oat crumble. Laura made today truly special by teaching me the art of making conchas! I was blown away by her kindness and expertise. The cozy coffee shop/bakery was the perfect setting, and I felt so welcomed. Even though I was the only student initially, Laura didn't cancel, and thank goodness since I was really looking forward to this day of learning. To our delight, Mary, a customer who coincidentally came at the time Laura and I were just beginning class, asked to join in – and it became a lovely little gathering. Both Laura and Mary have hearts of gold, and our conversation about baking and life left me feeling uplifted. I'm sending cheers to these wonderful ladies and looking forward to our next baking adventure!

Baking is my love language, and tomorrow I'm spreading love and peace through these delicious cookies. Mr. J and Mama to Mr. J are in for a treat, with some of my signature chocolate chip cookies that require a 2-day wait to get the flavors just right. These soft and chewy cookies are packed with chocolate chips, and some get an extra boost from toasted macadamia nuts. I hope they savor every bite and enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them…and sampling a few also. ❤️

There are MANY times that I buy fiction or mystery books just because they have to do with baking…and as an added bonus, there are frequently recipes included. These cupcakes were from the book “Peace, Love and Cupcakes” from the mother and daughter writers Sheryl and Carrie Berk. The name of the cupcakes were “Eco-licious Chocolate Cupcakes” and were meant to be organic. I took some liberties with this recipe but for the main jest, these are from them and they were DE-LISH-OUS!!! (They were MUCH better than just being delicious as they were chocolate on top of chocolate on top of chocolate!)

When I'm not getting paid to bake, I still can't help myself. We have tons of lemons in our yard, so I zested some to add flavor to my muffins and coffee cakes, and juiced the rest. Before whipping egg whites for my macarons, I wipe my equipment with lemon juice to remove any fat residue.

Thank you for allowing me to barge into your cookie decorating class at ! I had so much fun especially since I didn’t have to do any of the hard work but come and play. The first five photos show Miss Wendi’s hard work. Then, I was left to explore and walk around the room and a little of the campus…I went camping, and saw a frog that wore glasses like me, and a hamburger that I could hug if I needed some comfort and there were sprinkles of kindness smattered everywhere. One of the photos is my bunny cookie so I was even allowed to create! To the parents of these kids: please give your kids thank you’s for being so welcoming. Thank you again Miss Wendi and El Portal School. (And to the students…I’m sorry that I contributed to all the noise and that we needed quiet time because of it! 😳). Please, please, please invite me back! ❤️

I'm having fun with macarons. These sweet treats have a rich history, dating back to 1533 when they were introduced to France from Italy. The recipe was later published in the early 1800s in Paris, and they've been a hit ever since. Every March 20 they become the hit of the party as it is Macaron Day. With their crispy exterior and soft interior, they're pretty sweet, but the fillings provide a nice balance. I chose white chocolate peppermint buttercream for mine, as the minty freshness cuts through the sweetness.

Everybody needs a blooper reel! I made some extra macarons with the sneaky intention of hinting to my husband that I need a trip to the “happiest place on earth” soon. I was feeling quite pleased with myself when I placed them on a rotating plate, and that's when things took a turn... oh well! The REAL me appears again…and almost drops things. These have white chocolate peppermint buttercream as the filling and a hint of royal icing decorations for the added crunch and texture.

There's something special about spreading kindness and love through baked goods. Thanks to 'A' for giving me the opportunity to make that perfect food hug for their hubby. What I love most about being a baker is the collaboration, the surprises, and the joy it brings. And in this case, I'm sworn to secrecy as I t's a surprise for the spouse. A rainy day seemed like the perfect excuse to tackle the finicky macaron, a cookie that can be tricky to master, particularly in damp weather. By carefully folding whipped egg whites into almond flour and powdered sugar, then baking until crispy, I created a delicate shell with a tender interior. To balance the cookie's natural sweetness, I added a touch of salt and paired it with a rich chocolate filling. My husband's coworkers will be enjoying these vanilla macarons with chocolate centers as a belated Valentine's Day treat.
