The secret to a 2-tier cake that actually stays level. 🏗️🍰
Stacking a cake is often the most nerve-wracking part of decorating, but it’s all about the foundation. If you want that professional, seamless look, you have to prioritize stability.
Here is my 6-step guide for a successful stack:
1️⃣ The Base Support: Start with wooden dowels measured to the exact height of your bottom tier.
2️⃣ Extra Stability: I like to add straws alongside my dowels for that extra layer of security.
3️⃣ The Grip: Use a layer of buttercream on top of your supports. This acts as "glue" to help the bottom board of the top tier stay in place.
4️⃣ Temperature Control: Both cakes must be extra cold before stacking. This is the most important step for safe handling.
5️⃣ The Anchor: Drive a final wooden dowel through both tiers to connect them. This prevents the top tier from drifting during transport.
6️⃣ The Seamless Finish: Fill the gaps between the tiers with buttercream and smooth it out for a flawless, one-piece look. ✨
Voilà! Your tiered cake is ready for the spotlight. 🥂
