In the 1920s, William Riley was introduced to the baking world while serving in the United States Army. Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, William and his wife, Katherine, operated a very successful bakery in Corbin, KY. During World War II, sugar rationing caused bakeries all over to limit their inventory. In 1943, Mr. Riley heard of one bakery in Bowling Green, KY that was not affected by the war’s sugar rationing…and it was for sale. Mr. and Mrs. Riley drove to Bowling Green, purchased the bakery, and continued to operate both establishments throughout the remainder of the war.
In 1945, the Rileys moved to Bowling Green, and the Corbin bakery was taken over by William’s brother. In 1968, a new location was built at the well-known address of 819 US 31-W ByPass.
In 1973, William Riley died and his son, Dan took over the business. Dan developed the business into the sweet spot of Bowling Green. Today, Dan and Sandy’s son, Shaun, is the third generation of Rileys to run this special Bowling Green establishment that we all know and love.
