On a recent Sunday, our Chief of Chaos to Calm spent the afternoon helping an elderly woman and her daughter pack up their soon-to-be former affordable housing apartment to move to a new one in a different community.
With the help of the four generous souls pictured below, who contributed both time and money to making this project happen, Beth and the team of volunteers from the client's local church accomplished the goal...pack as much as possible as quickly as possible while trying to declutter/downsize at the same time.
Sifting through years of stuff covered in dust was heartbreaking for the volunteers.
They asked questions like...
"Is this normal?"
"Will they ever be able to maintain their home?"
"How can we support them moving forward?"
The answers?...
Yes, it seems to be more the norm in our society as we continue to fail at helping those who truly cannot help themselves.
And the best way to support someone struggling with chronic disorganization?
Always be judgment-free and simply ask, "How can I support you?"
