Saturday morning's open house at BASIS Independent Bothell had donuts stacked high, almond croissants, muffins and scones, and a lot of new faces. Thank you to the BASIS team for having us back again.

Mid-bite, eyes closed, fully committed to the cake. Zero regrets then, zero regrets now.

Math says 47. Ross says 83. We stopped arguing years ago. Besides, 83 years of big laughs, lots of love, and a heart to serve is hard to argue with.

Grab & Go is $6.49 — a muffin, croissant, or bagel with cream cheese plus a 12 oz drip coffee. It's already made, so you're in and out in under two minutes.

If you've got a few more minutes, the Breakfast Sandwich Combo is $11.49: your breakfast sandwich, bagel breakfast sandwich or the Legislative Biscuit, made to order, plus the coffee.

And if drip isn't your morning, upgrade the coffee to whatever is.

Meet Tim Foley.

Born and raised in Amarillo, which explains why he looks at home under that map.

Ask him the best part of working here and he doesn't point at anything on the menu. He talks about people. The fun of it, the all-in-together. Learning the regulars by name and by order. And being treated like a valued member of the family himself.

In February he becomes a grandparent.

He's behind the counter in Canyon Park, Monday through Friday, 7:00 to 2:30. Ask him about the Legislative Biscuit — parmesan bacon biscuit, egg, bacon and provolone, and his pick off our menu — or get him started on karaoke: "People Need the Lord" is the one, and he means it.

The Gobbler returns Monday, October 19.

Turkey, bacon and Havarti with thin-sliced apple, garden veggie cream cheese and cranberry chutney on hearty wheat.

If you had a conversation with Amanda over the summer, you probably know she teaches at Skyview Middle School. She's a dedicated teacher and she loves her students, so it comes up.

Her team there has learned that food sometimes just shows up. Cookies. A cake. Poteet Pudding. We think that's a nice perk of being a 6th grade teacher at SMS.

This week was a team luncheon, so she brought an Italian salad. To her team — we hope you enjoyed it. We know how hard this time of the year can be, so more treats are coming.

Ady set out to be the first woman in the Big Tex Club. She's in.

A Big Tex is a 1.5+ pound burrito in a 14-inch flour tortilla — scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, hash browns, cheddar, grilled onions, bell pepper and jalapeños, with a drizzle of our house garlic-jalapeño crema. Finish one in a sitting and that's the whole of it. No prize, no punch card. Just the bragging, and being first.
