A Charlie Brown Christmas

Dec 9, 1965 is when "A Charlie Brown Christmas" premiered on TV. The program won an Emmy and a Peabody Award.

"I said if we're going to do a Christmas show, we have to use the passage from St. Luke." - Charles Schulz
It has aired every year since. Based on the Peanuts characters by Charles M Schulz, it was hated by the TV executives for being too religious but was an instant hit with the public.

The musical score was written by jazz pianist, Vince Guaraldi. This has special meaning for me because little brother Tom Onorato taped in on a small recorder and taught himself how to play it. Don't know how old he was at the time, but still a little lad! All grown up, but still our Golden Boy!
Don't know if the link will play from here, but you can go to:

The Bells of St. Mary's was released December 6, 1945 and has become a TV Christmas tradition for many families.
Directed by Leo McCarey, The Bells of St. Mary's was nominated for 9 academy awards, winning two. Bing Crosby reprises his role of Father O'Malley (from Going My Way) and Ingrid Bergman is Mother Superior Sister Mary Benedict. McCarey was said to have based the film on his aunt, a nun who died of typhoid.
Adjusted for inflation, The Bells of St. Mary's is considered the 50th highest grossing film of all time.
