From Capri to Dolci Momenti ❤️🇮🇹
I'm finally home after an unforgettable trip to Italy—a journey filled with family, lifelong friends, and the places that will always feel like home: Naples, the Amalfi Coast, Capri, and the Dolomites.
One of the most meaningful moments of my trip was returning to Marina Grande in Capri to visit Signora Gianpaola at Bar Gabbiano.
Decades ago, she and her family created this special little café, which has become a true landmark in Marina Grande.
Back when I worked as a tour guide in Capri, every visit included a stop at Bar Gabbiano for a slice of their famous Torta Caprese. Rich with almonds and chocolate, it was—and still is—the best Caprese cake on the island.
After watching me come back for "just one more slice" more times than she could count, Signora Gianpaola said, "Gitl, It's time you learn how to make it." She generously shared her treasured family recipe with me.
My first attempt? A complete disaster! 😂
But that recipe became part of my journey.
Years later, when I opened Dolci Momenti, Torta Caprese became one of our signature cakes and one of your all-time favorites.
Standing beside Signora Gianpaola again, in her beautifully renovated
Bar Gabbiano, while my daughter slept peacefully in my arms, I couldn't help but reflect on how much life has changed. I've crossed oceans, changed careers, built a business, and started a family. Yet one thing has remained the same: my love for Torta Caprese and the incredible people who inspired me along the way.
Some recipes are more than a list of ingredients—they are stories that shape us. They carry memories, generosity, friendship, and the courage to begin something new.
Grazie di cuore, Signora Gianpaola. Your kindness became part of my story, and a little piece of Capri lives on in every Torta Caprese I bake.
❤️ With gratitude,
Elena
