Woman's Club of Blountstown

Woman's Club of Blountstown Way back in the 1930 depression years, a group of very determined and fearless young ladies banded together to form a friendship circle.

The Woman's Club of Blountstown is a volunteer organization whose purpose is to promote and provide civic, educational, an charitable activities that enrich the lives and the environment in the service area of Blountstown, Florida. The "Club House" where they gathered, then located on local school grounds in Blountstown, was the center for almost all community and school events. It is said that at

one point, these young women went down to the banks of the Chipola River an actually gathered heavy and beautiful rocks from the shore. These rocks were then used to make the unique and artfully designed fireplace that graced one portion of the main club room. This Club House has been restored and is now located at the Panhandle Pioneer Settlement. The Woman's Club of Blountstown was organized and chartered in 1987. Geraldine Adams served as the first President. Strictly a community service organization, the Club supports local projects. Since 1992, the Club has made a yearly donation towards the upkeep of the Yon House, one of several historical cottages on the Settlement property. The kitchen of the Yon House remains a baking haven for Woman's Club member, Frances Price. She continues making and baking southern biscuits in the wood stove. These delicious morsels are given to school children who come to the Settlement on field trips an to the public from all over the world who attend various events. Charities also include school scholarships, library book donations, and Calhoun County Senior Citizen Center, to name a few. Other charities are freely assisted as the need arises. Annual fundraising projects include a Trash to Treasure sale, silent auction, an bake sales.
