This summer we have learned to process a new product called Brandied Apples. The process involves processing sliced apples in a sugar solution with a small amount of Brandy added to the solution after cooking it. Then the solution is poured over the apples in the jar.

The Canning Plant will open as scheduled on July 7th but with new procedures due to COVID-19. You must make an appointment by calling (706) 439-6043 to allow for social distancing. Appointments will be offered in 2 time periods 6am-8:45am and 9am-11:45am. Sorry but no walkups will be permitted. Other new COVID-19 guidelines will be in effect including masks and temperature checks. Below is the link to the Canning Plant page on the County website with the complete guidelines and procedures. The Union County Canning Plant will conduct a Food Preservation Workshop on June 24 from 10 a.m until 1 p.m. Our guest speaker is Jesse Moore, Gilmer County Cooperative Extension County Director. She will discuss the basics of canning vegetables.
