WHAT. A. WEEKEND.
Two events, TWO sellouts, and 24 DOZEN cookies plus plenty of other sweet treats sold! The long nights and early mornings were worth it. Chelsea, thank you for showing up for me EVERY single time I come to town. Your support never goes unnoticed!
But beyond the sellouts, I want to highlight just how incredible Girls Rock Festival was.
At a time when women's rights, autonomy, and identities continue to be challenged and politicized, there's something powerful about a space that unapologetically celebrates women. A space to be loud, creative, different, and entirely yourself without having to justify your existence or shrink yourself to fit someone else's expectations.
This festival was about so much more than music, art, or small businesses. It was about community, representation, inclusivity, and empowerment. Spaces like these aren't just nice to have. They're NECESSARY. Feminism should be intersectional, recognizing that empowerment means very little if it doesn't extend to women of all backgrounds and identities. Everyone deserves dignity, autonomy, and the freedom to take up space.
And speaking of taking up space, I HAVE to shout out two bands!!
Down to Earth, featured in this post, wrote and performed an ORIGINAL song, and the stage presence from these 11- and 12-year-olds?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! The confidence, energy, and talent absolutely blew me away. Please never stop making music and using your voices
And Warhol, the closing act?! Y'ALL KILLED IT. The energy, the message, the entire performance. Powerful.
Watching the next generation confidently express themselves in an environment that celebrates individuality was a reminder of why events like this matter. Empowerment isn't just telling people they have a voice. It's creating opportunities for them to actually use it.
I'm so proud to have been a small part of something bigger than any one of us. Let's keep creating, protecting, and showing up for inclusive spaces, especially when the world gives us every reason to do otherwise.
