I know this first picture isn't your typical " sourdough lady" photo, but it's a glimpse into why I chose sourdough to begin with.
I've always loved nature and the thought of being more connected to what mother nature can give us. I also spent a lot of my childhood going in and out of the hospital with different stomach conditions and no real answers. Never did. I think that my love of nature and my inability to eat foods from Big corporations would get me to where I am today.
At first I wanted to start my own starter just because I wanted the challenge. I knew that people were selling their starters and there's ones out there that are supposedly hundreds of years old, but I wanted to accomplish making my own from scratch. There were many times I wanted to give up but finally it started bubbling and Doughlene was born!
I couldn't get enough of trying to make bread. Oh, I had so many that were terrible! I really thought I would have to go to culinary school or just give up, but again I let my persistence win and I was able to making loaves.
Fast forward to today and Clover & Crumb supplies bread to the local community. How does this have to do with nature? Well, it's the tradition of simple ingredients, some patience, trial and error, and the hope that having something small batch can make it to your home. The same goes with the jams or any other treats I make and as Clover & Crumb continues to grow, I'll continue to make sure I use the best quality ingredients and locally sourced ingredients to make the best quality products from my home to yours.
