Coffee truck serving specialty coffee and tea, real fruit smoothies, muddled lemonades, and scratch made pastries, with an emphasis on organic, local, and fair trade ingredients. Black Iris LLC was formed by Damon and Allison Jarabek in October 2022, following a year-long project to convert an old FedEx truck into a food truck. We built the truck to function well in the notoriously unpredictable S

outh Dakota weather and to operate as a drive-thru, so that we can reliably serve our patrons year-round. Prior to opening, we spent countless hours sourcing the finest ingredients and formulating our recipes. At Black Iris, you can expect delightfully unique sweets and drinks made with premium organic and fair trade ingredients whenever possible. With our simple business model and direct-to-consumer approach, we are able to offer you the very best at competitive prices.

Thank you so much to everyone who joined us for our last Market at the Meridian! We so appreciate your kind support, sentiments, and wishes for our future as we reflect on all that this experience has provided, and all of our hopes for our next chapter.

These past few years brought us so much community connection, excitement, freedom to create, personal growth, time with family, and the ability to support causes for which we care deeply, aligning our work with our values. We will forever be grateful to you all for taking a chance on us, seeing the value in what we were doing, and showing up time and again, allowing our dream to thrive. The hardest part about stepping into the future will be missing you all!

We want to also give a special thank you to all of the vendors and fellow artisans who worked alongside us at the market. Joining the market had a profound impact on our business, and we are so grateful to have been invited! You all made us feel like family from day one, and we have so appreciated joining you every week and witnessing the heart that you put into your work. We know the effort it takes, and the passion and resillience required to succeed, and we marvel at what you all bring to the table and all of the value you provide for the wider community. You all inspired us every week!

Tomorrow is the last Market at the Meridian of the season, and our last outing! We hope you will join us! As we prep, our minds are full of thoughts of all of the firsts and lasts and memories we’ve experienced on this wild road trip 😊. You all have been the very best part of this journey! Out for a coffee date to see our friends at The Good Stuff-Brewing Joy! This is one of Denae’s first outings in her new coffee trailer, and she’s killing it! We ordered two lattes, and went back for a third. All were phenomenal! So smooth, flavorful, and balanced. Denae is waiting for her Sioux Falls license to process, but she’s ready to go everywhere else. Like and follow her new business page to see where she’s serving, or get ahold of her to book! Thank you all SO much for keeping us busy these past couple markets, for traveling to us, and for your kind words! We appreciate you all so much 💗! Although we brought extra, we have sold out of cookies, pies, and banana bread both weeks. We will plan to bring even more next week, so if you’re able, stop back for your favorites!

There’s been some early interest in the truck, but she’s still ours 💗. Can’t wait to serve you all tomorrow at the Market at the Meridian! The market will be our only stop through October. You can find us, and many other amazing vendors, at 2nd & Douglas in Yankton every Saturday from 9am-noon, or until we announce that someone lucky is rolling away with our dream 😂.

Hi Friends! Today’s post is bittersweet. Many changes have taken place in our life since we established our business in 2022, and as a result we feel the need to restructure our professional life to align with our evolving personal needs. Many of our immediate family members have moved across the country and the globe, and in light of this, we’ve made the difficult decision to pursue remote work so that we can travel and stay connected.

When we set off on this adventure, we were determined to accomplish two things; we wanted to create community and be a bright spot in our patron’s day. We hope you all felt that in every interaction and sensed that our goods were prepared with love for you all.

From our business name, to our mission, to the heart we poured into building this dream from the ground up, we hoped to honor the legacies of two very special people- Izzy Plath (Allie’s sister) and Rhonda Jarabek (Damon’s mom). This dream came to fruition because our loss taught us that life is so precious and so fleeting, and their love and ability to connect people taught us how to distill life and focus on what matters most. This project was a place to focus all of our energy when we needed it most, and the response from you, our community, has brought us healing in a way that nothing else could! We’re so grateful to you all for your support and generosity, and the shared experiences we’ve had along the way. We have so enjoyed our regular visits with you all!

During this transition, we will do our best to ensure continuity in service and to communicate any changes in our scheduling, if necessary.

Phew, it’s been a busy week prepping for this weekend! It takes so much behind the scenes work to make a few hours of service look effortless 🤪. Our favorite part of what we do is the calm after the storm. It’s the part where we take your order and catch up with you, and time slows down just a bit for us to enjoy the moment, because the hard part is done! Thank you all so much for those moments!
