If you’ve been in business since 2021 or earlier, the Foundation Builders form is linked in my bio. Once your form is submitted, I’ll add your bakery to the Heritage Map and update it regularly as new entries come in.

Every industry has its foundation builders. The folks who showed up before it was popular. The people who learned the hard lessons, built loyal communities, and proved that a small baking business could thrive.

This logo represents those bakers.

Not the biggest accounts. Not the loudest voices. But the bakers who laid the foundation.

Yesterday, I officially introduced the identity for the Foundation Builders Project — a growing effort to recognize and preserve the stories of cottage food and licensed home bakers who started their businesses in 2021 or earlier.

My hope is to build something that honors the experience, resilience, and wisdom of the people who helped shape the home baking movement.

A lot has changed since 2021.

I started as a cottage baker making sourdough from my home kitchen in our previous home. In 2025, I became a licensed and inspected domestic kitchen bakery, and today this business is my full-time job.

My bakery occupies the entire southeast side of our home and produces up to 240 loaves a week during peak season.

The bread gets most of the attention, but the real MVP is a clean, organized workspace. ✨ For years, I did every bit of cleaning myself. Last year, I hired a local cleaning company (Sunriver Cleaning LLC) to come in weekly, and I only wish I’d done it sooner. Worth. Every. Penny. 🙌✨

Every loaf is mixed, shaped, baked, packaged, and cleaned up right here.

I’m going to start documenting the crumb reveal from my personal loaf each week. Often times I keep the “duds” for ourselves. Here’s today’s ugly duckling and what it looks like inside! (You can hear Bodhi in the background waking up from his nap so I had to cut it a little short. 🤣🐶)

There’s really no excuse anymore. If you want to sell food from your home, get compliant, educate yourself, get your food handler card, and understand the laws in your state. We are feeding the public — food safety and accountability matter.

And yes… seeing someone on social media casually promoting her cottage home-baked sourdough with bacon and gouda nearly made my head explode off my body.
