In 1995, my father opened up a small family bakery in Belvidere, Illinois. Since then it has gone through different changes eventually becoming a whole sale bakery as well as a cake shop. During that time we have served the Northern Illinois area as well as sending our bread nationwide as we had wholesale managers who ordered bread for stores in various parts of the country.
3 years ago my father had a heart attack which ended the whole side of our business (aside from a few, long time partners we have kept) and we have decided what direction we will be taking our little bakery in the future.
My name is Judy and my father started this wonderful little business. I will be taking over and slowly changing our bakery to a more retail/eat in type of bakery. I have had many years doing cakes (as well as tagging along in the bakery all these years) as well as a fine arts degree with many hours in various arts and design courses that have helped me in making beautiful cakes and cookies. In the future we will have the tradional bakery treats like cookies, cakes and pastries, and will be adding specialty and custom goodies such as you would find on Pinterest as well as trending items.
As a nod to my father, we will start our turnover a week from today, on Hometown Christmas, which was also the same festival on the day which we first opened our doors. We hope to have an established menu and new signage by the beginning of next year and a seating area and finalized daily menu by summer.
We hope to see you as we go forward with this new phase. As a final change, we will be renamed Doughlicious Bakery. This is a heart warming little family word that me and my sisters would say, when we would bite into a delicious roll or pastry that our father would make for us :) We hope to make many doughlicious treats for everyone, for years to come.
