☀️🎂 SUMMER CAKE ALERT! 🥵✨
With the warmer weather officially here, we need to talk about a custom cake’s biggest natural enemies: heat, humidity, and direct sunlight. ☀️🔥
We all love a beautiful outdoor celebration, but leaving a gorgeous cake sitting outside in the elements is a quick recipe for heartbreak. Because icing is made with real butter, it will start to soften, sweat, and structurally break down VERY fast…sometimes within minutes! Direct sunlight acts like an oven, causing fillings to slip, decorations to slide, and your centerpiece to melt into a puddle. 🫠
The good news? You can absolutely still have a stunning cake at your summer event! Here is how you can protect your dessert and keep it picture perfect:
🛑 How to Prevent a Melting Masterpiece
1. The "Last Minute" Rule: Keep the cake safely inside the refrigerator or a heavily air conditioned room for as long as possible. Do not bring it out to the display table until right before you are ready to gather everyone, sing, and cut it. ⏰
2.Seek Absolute Shade: If the cake must be outside for a brief moment, it needs to be completely shielded from direct sunlight. Under a sturdy tent, a covered porch, or deep, consistent shade is a must. ☂️
3.Mind the Mugginess: Even in the shade, high humidity can make the cake weaken. If it’s a typical heavy, humid summer day, an indoor display is always the safest bet. 💨
4.Watch the Display Table: Glass, metal, or dark-colored outdoor tables trap and radiate heat upward. Placing a cake on a scorching hot metal table will melt it from the bottom up! Use a wooden table or a thick tablecloth buffer. 🪑
5.Look but Don't Touch (The "Sweat" Phase): When a cold cake hits warm air, it will sweat and develop tiny beads of moisture. Do not touch it! The moisture will evaporate naturally once it's back in AC, but poking it while wet will permanently ruin the smooth finish. 🤫
6.Cool Transport: When picking up or moving your cake, crank your car’s air conditioning before putting the cake inside. Always place the cake box on a flat, level surface (like the floorboard)! 🚗❄️
🎨 Bonus Tip: Consider Your Colors!
Did you know that dark frosting colors (like deep navy, black, burgundy, or dark chocolate) absorb heat significantly faster than white or pastel cakes? If you are planning an outdoor setup, sticking to lighter colors will buy your cake some extra time in the warmth! 🎨
🍰 Leftover Care
Once the cake is cut, the structure changes and the open layers will dry out quickly in the summer heat. Be sure to wrap any leftovers tightly or pop them into airtight containers
and get them straight back into the fridge! 🎂
👋 A Friendly Reminder: We pour so much love and hard work into making your dream cake look flawless! Once the cake is safely delivered or picked up, its environment is out of our hands. We wrap and prepare it perfectly for travel, but heat damage after hand off is a risk we cannot control. Please follow these tips to keep your beautiful investment safe! 🫶
Let’s keep those cakes looking beautiful, structurally sound, and delicious all summer long! 🍰❤️
