Late report 9/11-12 canyon overnight …
We had Sean and crew for the first overnighter in a while on the Marlee Rose. Made it to the canyon around 430 pm and out the spread out … 20 mins in had a white come screaming thru and window shop and eat a couple ballys but couldn’t find a hook. Swung by a pot and had a few Mahis come out and wreck havoc again on ballys came tight on one that would have gone like 15 pounds but pulled the hook. right before dark we decided to go back and catch some of those Mahis catching a quick 25 before dark.
Into the dark we ran back up into the deep and put it on the drift for the night… not much happened most of the night, the drift was nice and we made a few moves and everything was quiet until 330 when we caught our first yellowfin and our biggest and just over 100 pounds. For the next hour we didn’t have another bite, so I ran back to where we had that bite and put it on the drift again, just after setting the 5th rod…. We got bit again. Just before that fish was in the boat we got bit again. So now with two on deck getting ready to put them away all hell broke loose and we could ourselves in the middle of a two hour drift of yellowfins chewing the paint off the boat. Haven’t had a trip like that in a long time and it was a welcome sight!!
After the smoke cleared we ended up 15 for about 30 and catching them on bait jigs and poppers.
After it was all over we stopped at a pot and pulled another 20 and headed for the barn.
Thanks Sean for putting this trip together.
