In April, our Bodie was diagnosed with mast cell cancer that had spread to the lymph nodes. With the wonderful care of Morehead Animal Hospital, we were blessed with four more good months with him. He went into retirement a while back where he enjoyed lots of treats, belly rubs, and rides. And kept a close eye on the stand from our front door.
We brought Bodie home as a puppy knowing he would become Captain Thomas’s sh*****ng dog—and a sh*****ng dog he was. Bodie made more trips and witnessed more shrimp being caught than most men will see in a lifetime.
He was big, strong, loyal, and fiercely protective of his family—and of his truck, his house, and his boat. When he wasn’t sh*****ng, he was content to people-watch and bark at everyone from the truck at the boatyard…and enjoy the occasional cheeseburger.
Bodie taught Captain Jack well, but his presence in our home and on our boat can never be replaced. Our family and crew will miss him more than words can say.
Go catch those shrimp, Bo-Bo. Your work here is done.
Bodie passed peacefully in our home surrounded by love and gentleness with help from Dr. Julianne and her husband, J.D., of Rainbow Connection in Newport. Having them come to our home, within hours of calling them, was one of the best gifts we could’ve given Bodie. 🦐🐾
