Our Story
In 1988, Jim Calandra met and fell in love with a lifelong Bayonne resident and from there made Bayonne his permanent home. The bustling community was missing just one thing: an authentic bagel shop that greeted its residents every morning with old fashioned hand rolled bagels. In August of 1990, Broadway Hot Bagels opened its doors for the first time and in a few short years became a local Bayonne breakfast staple. The born and raised Jersey boy knew there was only one proper way to make a great bagel: hand rolled and kettle boiled to pay homage to the traditional old fashioned NY style water bagel--crispy outside, light and soft inside. The method has been perfected over the course of our 27 year history and with it, has created a family of loyal customers who feel like they're at home as soon as they walk in the door. The Calandra family looks forward to serving Bayonne and adding you as a member of our friendly-neighborhood bagel shop!
