Yes, it’s true! 😚😮💨 I will be closing the downtown cake studio at the end of February/early March (official date coming soon) and taking a break on making cakes.
This has been one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made, and not quite on the timeline I had originally hoped for. Unfortunately, I have been sustaining serious pain, and now, beginning nerve damage in my hands and will likely be having surgery on my hands in the near future. Because of this, I had to accelerate this decision to close, which is also being influenced by other life factors and considerations, including the ever-increasing cost of ingredients and services to keeping the studio running.
I am not closing WCD for good, nor am I hanging up my spatula forever, but I’ve decided I need to prioritize my health and well-being, as well as other plans and hopes that Chris and I have for the future. I hope to return to making custom cakes in some capacity in the future, once I have a better timeline of what 2023 and 2024 looks like for me. For now I will call this a “Cake Sabbatical” as I get re-situated and healed.
For folks inquiring on weddings: I am busy trying to get back to all of your inquiries, but in a nutshell: I won’t be booking cakes for the 2023/2024 wedding season as of right now, but will be creating a waitlist for late-2024/2025 for those who have reached out.
Thank you ALL for supporting this dream and warming our downtown spot with your visits, love, excitement and patronage, as well as all the support and amazing clients I have had the last several years in Maine.
More info and updates to come soon! But we are still open for now, prepping for an amazing Valentine’s day season, and still taking online “Everyday Cake” orders for dates through March 4th (see online store for more info).
Thank you for your understanding! It has been our pleasure! Xoxo -Asa
