Bramble and Birds owner John Weibel, along with his son John and his partner Tiffany who sell at our market, are passionate about raising animals the way they were meant to live. Bramble and Birds is currently raising around 250 birds, including chickens, turkeys, and geese, and about 40 pigs. Every week they bring the freshest meat and eggs you can find to their neighbors in Shelbyville!
When John Senior first started Bramble and Birds he also had blackberries, but eventually the animals took over the land and the business! I had a great talk with Tiffany and John about how they care for their animals versus how the typical grocery store meat is raised. They move their chicken tractors daily, so their birds have access to the freshest pasture. They use all organic, non GMO feeds, and no pesticides or herbicides in their farming operations. Sadly, most grocery store meat animals are raised in small pens that restrict their movement. Buying locally and humanely raised meat is a great place to start voting with your dollar if you are not doing so already!
You can also look forward to fresh garden produce from Bramble and Birds come July. They are currently growing okra, potatoes, peppers, rhubarb, sweet potatoes, corn, green beans, and more!
Come say hello and make your next meat purchase locally, with Bramble and Birds at the Shelby County Farmers’ Market, Every Saturday from 8-12 at Stargazer Plaza. See you soon!
