Summer shows us what spring's work was for — and this one carries a first. A lot of people know this place for the farm out back. Jhonny, the farmer and a founding member of Coldwater, now runs that farm as his own business: Libélula Farm. Same soil, same plants, same farmer, new business. The beds are still a few steps from the kitchen door, and what comes out of them still lands on the plates inside. Send this to the friend who you introduced to the farm while enjoying a cafecito.

It's going to be a hot one this weekend — so we're taking a dollar off every iced espresso latte, now through Monday.

Come sit on the patio, pull up and park out front, grab a cold one to go. However you like it: straight, vanilla, whatever shot you're after it's $1 off Friday through Memorial Day Monday, all weekend, normal hours.

We're a small shop with one small kitchen on Western Avenue, pulling excellent shots by hand. While the big chains run on autopilot this weekend, we're right here, same as always, making it for our neighbors.

A small kitchen isn’t a limitation. It’s a daily decision.

It means everything passes through someone’s hands. Nothing hides behind volume. Some days the loaf comes out a little wild, the fold a little uneven — because real people made it, and real people are still learning. But it’s reliably nourishing.

The best food in your neighborhood probably comes out of a room you’d be surprised by. Tiny. Crowded. Honest about its mistakes.

That’s not the compromise. That’s the whole point.

Tuesday, June 2nd — Coldwater Sketch Hour 9am → draw for an hour → social time after

Bring your sketchbook, your watercolors, whatever you're working on. Come sit at the table, order a drink, and make something.

We're so lucky to share a neighborhood with Maria Madrid Reed — she'll be here the whole morning to look at what you're making, answer questions, give ideas, and just be in the room with you. Whether you've been drawing for twenty years or you picked up a pencil last week, or if your kid is the resident artist, you belong here.

We see you at our tables. The sketchbooks, the embroidery hoops, the notebooks. This is for you. Avondale doesn't have a lot of spaces like this and we want to be one of them.

This Sunday, bring your mom to the Coldwater.

No reservations. No special menu. No upsell. Just our regular kind of good — a quiet building, a waffle made the way we always make it, wildflower bouquets from Casita Blanca on every table, and a little extra room to slow down.

We’re open 7am–1pm with our full menu all day. The waffle is delicious (and gluten-free btw). The bollos start coming out at 7. The cold brew is on. The iced caramel latte is on. The Jamaica is on.

A few real-talk notes: 🌵 It is going to warm up this weekend. Come early and enjoy our outdoor seating. The morning before 10 is the move. 🌷 Bouquets on every indoor table and the four picnic tables. Because mom deserves flowers, and not just the ones who said anything about it. 👶 Kids welcome. They always are.

Dunkins has a national supply chain of frozen sweets. We have a kitchen and a human being named Clara who starts her work while the Arizona desert is still sleeping. She puts a level of intention into the dough that simply cannot be programmed into a machine.

Because we refuse to use stabilizers or frozen dough, our supply is tied directly to the work of a human hand. We don’t call it “artisan” to be trendy; we call it the real work.

When the last tray is gone, the case stays empty until tomorrow. That isn’t a marketing tactic to create “hype”. It’s the honest reality of a worker-owned shop that chooses quality over a never-ending shelf life.

Most “fruit juice” starts in a lab with a list of stabilizers and a two-year shelf life.

At Coldwater, our Jamaica starts with a crate of dried hibiscus flowers and a boiling pot.

🌺 crimson that doesn’t come from a bottle of dye.
🌺 floral steam filling the kitchen.
🌺 a slow steep to pull out every antioxidant and every bit of Vitamin C.

We don’t use “natural flavors” because we use the real thing. Jamaica isn’t just a drink; it’s a natural way to handle the desert heat without the sugar crash of a corporate soda.

The raw dough and hand-picked filling you see on the next slide are prepared to order. We don’t use shortcuts or “natural flavor” packets because we believe in the real work.

Community isn’t an abstract concept. It’s the literal infrastructure of this shop.

In a corporate model, every part is designed to be replaceable. If a gear breaks, you swap it out. But here, we aren’t gears. We are a worker-owned collective.

When the seasons change - both inside and outside these walls - it’s the community that keeps the rhythm steady. Change is a constant, but it doesn’t have to be a burden.

We’ve seen our fair share of shifts lately. Business cycles. Personal milestones. The usual weight of being alive in 2026. But those moments are easier when you aren’t standing alone in a drive-thru. They are easier when you are rooted in a place that values the person over the transaction.

Most Caesar salads are just a delivery system for bottled dressing and stale bread. They are built for efficiency, not for flavor.

At Coldwater, we don’t believe in “safe” food. We believe in the real work.

🐟 It’s the oil-packed sardines that most corporate kitchens are too afraid to use.
🍋 It’s the lemon juice squeezed by hand until the skin stings.
