Garlic planting time is soon upon us! We have organic hardneck seed garlic for sale (1lb bags). Note: it has not been tested for pathogens.

Don’t plant it but love to eat it? Buy it now while it’s available. We keep ours in the basement for months! (It still looked beautiful as late as March-April and we had some until June.) It is absolutely delicious!

We also still have some of our own maple syrup, made the old-fashioned way on a wood-fired evaporator. It has a wonderful flavor with just a hint of smokiness. 😋
It’s not too early to start thinking of the holidays… Also great as hostess gifts. We have some nice fancy jars, perfect for gifting!

We are open! Today and tomorrow, 9:00-3:00.
Maple syrup, organic garlic and peaches only.

Our maple syrup is produced on a small wood-fired evaporator which gives it a wonderful, slightly smoky flavor, just like the traditional syrup of olden days.
Available in quarts (limited quantities), pints, round jugs and whisky flask.

Our garlic is available in one pound bags for the German white/Music (sorry, can’t remember which kind I have. Regardless, it has a wonderful flavor) and in 1/2 lb bags for the Phillips variety (available in very limited quantities). Both can be used in cooking or as seed garlic. Note: it has not been tested for pathogens but was very healthy throughout the growing season.

And what can I say about our peaches? They are bursting in flavor! So much better than the store bought ones. 😋 Sold by the quart (about 1 1/2lbs)

It is hard to believe that I have not posted in six months! It was not my intention to be away for so long but it seems like every time I blink, another week has gone by. We certainly have been very busy! No sooner did we close the store that maple season started and we produced some beautiful, delicious syrup. Right after that, gardening season started in earnest and hasn’t let up since May. I don’t think we’ve ever battled weeds the way we have this year! 😂 but our gardens have been bountiful despite it all. The garlic has been harvested and cured, but there’s still lots to do. We did manage to fit in some fun though, starting with a viewing of the eclipse at the birding trail in April, a short trip to Boston with a Red Sox game (they won! 😃) in May, some time at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, a visit to our daughter, and time spent with family and friends. We are looking forward to fall when the gardens are put to bed for some well-deserved rest, but will enjoy whatever the remaining summer days have left to offer us, including some delicious peaches and other produce.

We will open the store this weekend (Saturday and Sunday 9:00-3:00) for those of you who’d like to purchase maple syrup, garlic or peaches. Sorry, no baked goods 😞 We would love to see you, so stop by to say hello, no purchase necessary 🙃

And for those of you who have been patiently waiting for the cookbook, I want to apologize. I have not forgotten about it but I haven’t been able to work on it very much. I didn’t anticipate being quite so busy! It is still my goal to write one and I really hope that it will be ready just in time for the holidays.

Dear Friends of Blue Thistle,

We closed the doors to our little bakery for good this last Sunday - a very bittersweet moment. We cannot say enough how thankful we are for the support you have shown our little business since it opened. We never expected for it to become as successful as it did!
We have very much enjoyed meeting and chatting with you all over the last two plus years and that is what we’ll miss the most, but we are richer in friends as a result.
We are sorry we were not able to say a proper goodbye to all of you because we were so busy. However, we are not going anywhere, other than a little bit of travel here and there, and we hope that you’ll feel free to stop by and say hello, visit the gardens, etc…You’ll probably see some steam coming out of the sap house for the next month or so, unless spring decides to come early (there was no rest for the weary - we spent the last ten days tapping trees, collecting sap and making maple syrup.)
Our little shop will soon become my arts and crafts studio and seedling nursery. An excellent use for it, in my opinion 😊 You might even see me at some arts and crafts fairs later in the year.
We can tell you that if there is someone out there who would like to open a bakery in the area, there is a high demand for it!
Many of you asked for recipes, so stay tuned for a little cookbook of our favorite recipes coming out in a month or two!

Some of our customers have expressed a desire to put in larger orders to put in their freezer but since it is difficult to do so while also trying to keep the store well stocked, we thought we could offer a special orders weekend. These are by the batch and will be picked up at the store throughout the day Saturday or Sunday March 2nd and 3rd, from 8:00-4:00 (store will only be open to accommodate pick ups). We will try our very best to fulfill as many orders as we possibly can, on a first come first served basis, until our schedule is full which means you may not necessarily get what you want first thing in the morning - it could be late in the day. Here are the things that we can make and the quantity/batch:
Cinnamon rolls or sticky buns (8 of one kind)
Coffee cake (4 pieces)
Flourless tortes (2)
Scones (4)
Muffins (8)
Whoopie pies (7)
Croissants/pains au chocolat (Sunday only - limited quantities) (8 - any combination but by pairs)
If there’s anything I didn’t mention but you’d be interested in, let us know and maybe we can make it work.

Blue Thistle’s last weekend 😢 But we are fully stocked with all the things you love: cinnamon rolls and sticky buns, of course; blueberry muffins, flourless tortes, sour cream coffee cake, whoopie pies; lemon, millionnaire and pecan bars 😋 and cookies galore!(oatmeal chocolate chips, chocolate chip, sugar cookies with maple syrup icing, coconut macaroons and linzer cookies)
