Creatures of All Descriptions - Welcome to Black Cat Provisions Co.! You’ll be glad we crossed your path. What is Black Cat Provisions Co? "By dark of night til morning bright, Black Cat Provisions Co. conjures you baked delight!"
That’s right, Black Cat Provisions Co. is a moonlight, fly-by-night cottage industry of a bakery. (Don’t worry, we’re legal – more on that later.) Our ambrosial treats a
re coaxed out of scratch and old-fashioned baking know-how and our menu changes seasonally. If you’re craving a non-ordinary start to inspire your weekend mornings, step right this way to view our menu (coming soon). Did I mention we’ll deliver to your doorstep*?
*Tower-dwellers: delivery to window or rooftop may be arranged, provided you are prepared to tip generously. Where do the recipes come from? Some of you may already be familiar with my illustrious mom, Miss Bunny. Most of the recipes here arose from her kitchen in one form or another. The exceptions are the Dark Side Brownies, which started life on a blog before moving to a galaxy far, far away, and the Oh Snap Ginger Cake, which emerged from another recipe during an afternoon of tea-drinking and kitchen testing. What are the hours of operation? Black Cat Provisions Co. is at your service on weekends, improving Saturday and Sunday morning with baked goods delivered to your doorstep by 9:30 a.m. How do I order? We take orders by owl, raven, or emailed to [email protected]. Orders must be submitted by 6 p.m. Friday for Saturday delivery, and 6 p.m. Saturday for Sunday delivery. Please consult our Facebook, Twitter, or soon-to-be website for a calendar of what treats are fresh-baked each week. When submitting your order, please be sure to specify the quantity, the day you’d like it on, the delivery address, and a phone number I can reach you at if necessary. How do I pay? Cash at time of delivery, please and thank you. Djinn lamps and/or genuine Philosopher’s Stones also accepted
Other Minutiae:
Is it legal to run a bakery service – even one as awesome as BCPC – from your home? Yes, it is legal under Texas HB 970. (My bucket list career as an outlaw will have to wait for another time, another state.) Under “cottage industry provisions,” I’m allowed to sell baked goods as long as they are non-potentially hazardous (i.e. no raw eggs or items likely to cause Salmonella or botulism) and correctly labeled as originating in my kitchen. I am also required to get my Texas Food Handler’s License. If you have any questions or concerns, please ask! It is my priority to ensure that all edibles, as well as the environment they are prepared in, are safe and sanitary. Why bake? For the past two years I’ve served as an AmeriCorps VISTA with an Austin-based nonprofit. AmeriCorps VISTA is a national volunteer service initiative, which means I’ve spent that time working for free for a nonprofit that fights poverty; in return, the federal government has paid me a small stipend that only covers cost-of-living expenses. It’s a great service program. However, prior to fulfilling my dreams of grad school, I need to build up some personal savings. is my entrepreneurial attempt to prepare for the costs of moving to get my Masters degree.
