Spent two days making this special cake for Oskar, the kid of my lovely friends’ Mike Lowery and Katrin Wiehle. I felt responsible for his new love for Legends of Zelda because my husband gave him Breath of the Wild for Christmas last year and now it’s his new favorite thing! We love a new video game nerd though.
I had made a guardian themed cake years ago for a client so I had some practice to go all out this time, LED lights and all!

Wanted to share the names of some of the artists I collect from 🩷 This is of course a tiny fraction of the art I collect and perhaps I’ll share more of that soon. I want real artists to become more visible and to credit the importance of their craft in enriching our lives.

Swipe through for a treat! Did you know that 95% of my cakes are dreamed up from imagery that is completely non-cake related? Even when I use industry techniques like vintage piping or buttercream florals to achieve my designs, they are completely custom for my amazing clients who send me images they love. There’s an endless pool of inspiration out there, some seem impossible and will leave you stumped, but may we look outside of the cake feedback loop and create new things! I hope these few examples inspire you to try to find your voice.

I was bamboozled by an AI cake for the first time last week. I was so bummed and disgusted by it that I decided to one-up it instead of being mad. It was a teapot shaped cake in all pink, nothing a real person couldn’t do, which makes it even more pointless. I decided to make a REAL one in my style and voice. I collect teapots (I have dozens!) so I tried to make one that I’d love to have in real life. I’ve been wanting to make a teapot cake for a while and I also wanted to try a domed cake for a while. Many, birds, stones and all that.
Anyway, all this to say, I hate AI. If you use it, boooooooo. Use your hands and brain folks, don’t let convenience turn you to mush.
Shout out to ’s domed cakes which heavily influenced this one.
