This end of school year is tinged with tragedy with the horrifying news of the shooting at Robb Elementary. 19 children and two teachers were murdered. This s**t has got to stop.
Schools are meant to be filled with joy and learning and laughter. It’s devastating and sickening that school shootings continue to happen so frequently and so horrifically in this country. Make it stop and make schools and communities safe. Law makers and voters- let’s stand against this horrible violence and pass common sense gun laws locally and nationwide. Get these assault weapons that are literally designed to kill multiple people in a single pull of the trigger out of circulation and give mental health access to those who need it. Protect our most vulnerable and stop making excuses. Armed children won’t stop school shootings- but maybe less access to these weapons and more counseling for those most likely to use them will. Kids are precious and innocent- protect them.

It’s been a minute since I’ve posted. I’ve had a bit of a week or two on the personal end, and today I found myself with some free time. I decided to go through my fridge and put together all of my leftovers for one awesome pie!
Food waste is an issue that bothers me to my core. I hate throwing perfectly good food away and I really hate letting food rot (without channeling that rot into something beautifully fermented!).
This pie (and likely others at the end of each season) is my solution to that. The vision for Oops All Fruits! is a pie that features all in season fruits at the end of their peak. It’s certainly not the end of the berry season- but since I had a lot to work with, I figured I’d give it a go!
Baking and finding a solution for potential food waste made me feel like I did some good today. I hope you’re able to get out there and do some good too!

Let’s celebrate spring with some amazing pies! 🍓🍋🥥
For I’ve developed a bright and sunny Lemon Blueberry Meringue Pie! A silky lemon custard swirled with a sweet and earthy blueberry jam and fresh blueberries, set in an all butter pastry crust. This one is topped with meringue kisses 💋and toasted coconut shavings for an Easter dessert that’s truly over the top! 🐣

Did you (blind) bake today?
Neither did I. This picture is from yesterday. 🤡
But for real- if you’ve ever wondered how your fave custard and cold set pies still get that supa d**a flaky crust, the not so secret secret is blind baking!
I’ve tried TONS of methods of blind baking over the past few months and let me tell you- they are all quite different and have garnered varying results.
I like to break it down into two categories- low and slow and hot and fast. Both methods work but the devil is in the details.
My low and slow method of choice come from the inimitable - it truly couldn’t be easier or more accessible. My fave hot and fast method is from and . A good in the middle method time wise is from the queen.
I don’t know where I’m going with this except to say blind baking isn’t that hard and there’s lots of ways to do it! And you ABSOLUTELY SHOULD if you’re baking a custard pie. Because there’s nothing worse than biting into a luscious custard pie only to find soggy pastry in the middle of your dessert and your custard curdled.

Strawberry Rhubarb Pi Day Pie!
Ok- wow! So many thoughts!
Pi Day is practically here! Not only was Pi Day a super fun day at school growing up, but now that I’m a pie person- Pi Day is also the kick off to spring Fruit Pie Season! The best time of the year!
This Strawberry Rhubarb Pi Day Pie is decked with little polka dots because duh, circles for Pi Day. It smells so sweet and juicy coming out of the oven and is so drool worthy! It’s also topped with a candied rhubarb Pi Symbol, again because duh!
I mean look at this thing! It’s sheer perfection!

This one was a labor of trial and error! Failing upward looks like this. 🤣
A silky Oreo Mocha Custard cold set into an Oreo cookie crust, topped with Coffee Whipped cream and decked with chocolate covered espresso beans. If this s**t doesn’t wake you up in the morning nothing will!
It’s rich and creamy and highly caffeinated! 😃🌚

Mistakes happen. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️
What’s important is that we learn from them, grow and move on.
This week I tried my damnedest to make Lemon Meringue Pie- my first ever favorite pie. And everything messed up.
The curd was under baked.
The crust shrank and burnt.
The meringue was under whipped and then over whipped and then under baked and weepy.
The pie was too big for my boxes and on top of it all, my cat jumped on it while it was covered and cooling. 🙀🤡
But you know what- I tried this pie and it was delicious. I may not have nailed it this week, but I know I’m close and I can nail it next week.
Failure matters it teaches us a lesson. If we listen to that lesson we can grow and change and get a little better each time we try again.
This weekend I plan to use my failed meringue to make a Sugar Coffee Mocha Fluff Pie, similar to that trend from two years ago. If all goes well, I’ll have those available on Monday!
Because the best thing I ever learned in art class was if you make a mistake turn it into something new instead.

My Lemon Icebox Pie features a gorgeous, silky smooth, tart and tangy lemon custard gently baked in a spiced ginger snap crust with a little black pepper for those vibes. It’s topped with a rich and not too sweet Chantilly whipped cream and some dark chocolate shavings to make it extra naughty 😈.

Guess who had no idea lemon season is in February? 🙋🏻‍♀️
This week I’m making Lemon Icebox Pies to really feed into this false spring we’re having! As always, pies are “pay what you want” and please DM or email me if you would like to reserve one!
Lemon Icebox Pie has roots in the south, but is something I’d never had before I moved to LA. When we were living in LA, Will and I would go to this burger joint/ diner type place called practically once a week! You know I’m all about a burger and Cassell’s has great ones!
But they also had pie and what’s better than a cherry coke, a big ass burger and a slice of pie? Literally nothing- that’s what. My go-to was always the Lemon Icebox Pie. It was creamy and cool and refreshingly different. The sour lemon and tangy cream cut through the rich and fatty burger and fries like a hot knife through an ice cream cake- leaving you feeling full, refreshed and nostalgic. Cassell’s tops their Lemon Icebox Pie with dark chocolate shavings which sends this cute little number over the edge with something a little different and unexpected.
Will and I have been a teensy bit homesick for LA the last week or two, and with lemons ripe and in season- I figured, what better way to cure the LA blues then to bring our favorite pie to Atlanta!

When you're a maker, people ask all the time, "what do you make?" or "what do you like to make?" The truth is I love to make EVERYTHING! Sweet, savory, big, small, cake, cookie, pie, pastry, bread- you name it! If I can find a recipe, be creative and make something that is fun, full of flavor and makes YOU happy- I'm sold!
