This season we decided to add something new to us but a classic in our community — Finnish Prune Tarts. We wanted to do it right and local Astorian Kim Supple, owner of Supple Rockers, answered the call with her tried and true recipe!

With a nod to Astoria’s Scandinavian history, this flaky dough with a sweet plum filling has been made by local families for generations, especially at this time of year. We were honored that Kim chose to share her very own family recipe, all so that we could create the same special pastry this holiday season.

A cup of coffee or a spot of tea with you and yours can only make this holiday season a little brighter, merrier, and sweeter! 🍋

Beginning today, everyday we are open, until SNAP benefits are restored, we will be offering a nutritious breakfast cookie FREE to SNAP recipients —OR— $4 a cookie with 100% of the proceeds going towards , our local food bank organization that we imagine will be under more pressure than usual to assist with food solutions.

This hearty cookie may not be a meal replacement, but the naturally gluten free cookie full of nuts, oats, eggs, and a chocolate chip here and there can give a little sustenance where our usual cookies may fall short!

This is what it’s about, isn’t it? If we can’t toss in some community movement and care, then WHAT HAS THIS HOKEY POKEY ALL BEEN ABOUT?! See you soon! 🍋

It’s been a summer of wonder, including some special guests in the bakery. .clatsop (Upward Bound!) joined us for a special part of their summer program. They flexed their cake making and cake decorating skills all while learning about aspects of baking and running a small business.

Upward Bound is comprised of high school students learning about the next steps of higher education institutions, careers, and much more in between. When we were asked to be a part of their summer program, it was a no-brainer for us, and we were honored to be part of their journey.

‘Education’ and ‘community’ are a verb that we run with, and it’s just part of who we are. For us, that’s what it’s all about and it makes decorating cakes and living life all the sweeter! 🍋
