Strange Name

My name is Shannon Carmichael Sakioka. I grew up in North East Texas with an extremely devoted father, Bob Carmichael. Dad was a master jeweler and I grew up to be a master jeweler, too. I worked beside him for 20 years. Growing up, my mother always made comments about him being Jewish but I never understood why. Jump to a few years ago... Dad passed away suddenly and I was left with the jewelry store. I didn’t want to turn into my father and live out his life. Instead, I took what little money I got from the store and went back to college and became a degreed Pastry Chef. Can you say ā€œOldest chef student in school?ā€ Loved it! Love creating foods people love and can enjoy with their families making memories. But the name of the business? So hard to name a business. It’s a symbol of who you are. Well, that’s were the Jewish comes in. Turns out, Dad was very much Jewish but never really believed it. DNA doesn’t lie. Mom always said Dad should rename the jewelry store to Carmichaelstein’s, instead of Carmichael’s, to combine heritages. Of course, he never did but why shouldn’t I? It just made sense to me to honour my father and my father’s, and my, bloodline. I’m extremely proud of where I come from and my father, who made me who I am, in many different ways.

I hope you’ll take the time to peruse the pictures of my bakes and maybe see something you’d like or be inspired to request a bake. If you have a recipe, I’ll make it. Just remember, every recipe/bake has a learning curve. The first one is always the practice bake. But the second is usually AMAZING. (And don’t be surprised if there’s something extra in your box or bag. You never know what I might whipped and sneak into the bag.)
