Dear Friends,

Fall is right around the corner and that means it is time for the Annawan-Alba Fire Department fundraiser. This year marks our 37th annual end of summer get-together. We are so thankful for 37 years of your faithful generosity and support! Our festivities will take place at the Annawan-Alba fire station on Sunday night, August 23rd, 2026, with SUPPER from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Our ala carte menu includes butterfly pork chops, grilled tenderloins, Italian beef (with hot dogs for the kids), potato salad, coleslaw, the Chief’s famous baked beans, chips, homemade pies and desserts, and beverages (water, pop, and coffee).

We invite you to come and dine with us, visit with old friends, make new friends, and help fund our local fire and rescue units. We will have raffle tickets on hand to purchase, and the prizes are what everyone could use… CASH!

Should you be unable to attend this year’s fundraiser, please feel free to make a tax-deductible donation by sending a check, payable to the Annawan-Alba Fire Department, addressed to:

🚨Golf Carts, E-Bikes and E-scooters 🚨

With the numerous complaints that we have received related to Golf Carts, E-Bikes and E-scooters, I am reaching out to address a growing safety concern in our neighborhoods, particularly regarding use by our children.

Lately, we have seen a significant increase in young residents riding these motorized vehicles on public roads and sidewalks. Many of these children are riding without a proper understanding of traffic laws, correct right-of-way, or basic safety rules. This lack of awareness puts both your children and pedestrians at serious risk of injury.

E-bikes and e-scooters are much faster and heavier than standard bicycles. Operating them requires maturity, quick reflexes, and a solid understanding of the rules of the road.

Please take the time to talk with your children about motorized vehicle safety. Ensure they always wear a helmet, follow local traffic signals, yield to pedestrians, and understand where they are legally allowed to ride.

Core Safety Risks

High speed: Motorized bikes move much faster than standard bicycles.
Heavy weight: Increased mass creates a higher impact force during collisions.
Skill gaps: Children often lack the maturity and reflexes for fast vehicles.
Rule ignorance: Many young riders do not know basic traffic laws or right-of-way.

Action Steps for Parents
Educate: Teach children local traffic laws and road signals.
Equip: Ensure children always wear a properly fitted helmet.
Enforce: Instruct riders to yield to pedestrians on sidewalks and paths.

Golf Carts

The Annawan Police Department would like to remind residents that while the Village of Annawan allows golf carts on local streets under Ordinance 6-6-3, unlicensed children are strictly prohibited from driving them on public roadways.

Under village law, anyone operating a golf cart on a public street must possess a valid driver's license. Allowing children to operate these vehicles puts them and pedestrians at severe risk and violates local traffic ordinances. Parents can be held accountable for allowing unlicensed minors to drive. Please help us keep our neighborhood streets safe by ensuring only licensed drivers operate motorized vehicles.
