Did I delay a new product release to do a large, last minute order? Yes, yes I did. Did this make the most sense for my business? ABSOLUTELY.
More than ever before, I feel the need to stick up for my values-- in my life and in my business. I have spent months feeling conflicted about taking loud stances on "controversial" topics (which shouldn't even be controversial, but that's a topic for another day) because I never want to make anyone feel like they don't belong in my community. My dear, fellow business friend once said to me, "it's so sad that by saying 'all are welcome here', there are people who will take that as a personal attack."
My church reached out about making pride cookies and transgender flag cookies and I could not say no. In this timeline of our government deciding who is welcome and who is not, I will always be the person who wants to add to my community, not turn people away. And it's so healing to see others doing the same.
It's easy to feel small and like we can't affect change. But I hope this encourages you to look for all of the amazing work being done by so many individuals. All it takes is each of us deciding to be inclusive and make space at the table.
