Day two of the foster care challenge! Emily shares some facts about foster care.
DAY 2) YOUR AREAS STATS:
DID YOU KNOW…
On any given day in Erie County, there are more than 1,000 children in foster care, and there are simply not enough foster homes to meet this growing need.
There are over 400,000 children in foster care in our Country.
These children range in age from birth to 21 years old. In the US, approximately 20,000 children “age out” of the system in their early 20’s without having found their forever family.
Some of the realities of a limited number of foster homes in an area:
1) Siblings are often unable to remain together
2) Kids may have to be moved around more frequently, changing schools, losing friends, and never feeling stable
3) More kids in group homes, shelters and in possibly unsafe situations, or prematurely send back home due to lack of support/options
What these kids need is one caring adult who is willing to invest in them intentionally, show them unconditional love, and be there for them as they endure these hardships.
Did you know that you don’t have to be a married couple to foster?
You don’t have to have already had kids of your own?
If you have a stable home, job, a heart for kids and lots of love to give, you can be a foster parent!
We didn’t feel quite “ready” when we said yes. I don’t think we ever would have. But I am SO thankful that we did!
