Who’s ready for the weekend?

We will be open at 9AM on Saturday to yet again offer breakfast tacos, churros with spiced chocolate for dipping, and Mexican-style coffee since it was so popular last weekend! Then, you guessed it, we will have shrimp tacos with chips and salsa/queso on special again for lunch (refer back to out last post for photos)!

If you weren’t able to come by the first go round we played around with serving up Mexican food then you’re in luck tomorrow, especially since @thelovves will be playing in the dining room during lunch!🎶 Listen how beautiful they sound!

We will be carrying Ezekiel bread in our retail store until further notice! We used to have it as a regular product back when we were located on Dawson Road (where are our OG bread heads at?), and decided to bring it back for a bit!

Ezekiel bread is as healthy as bread gets — It’s a type of sprouted bread, made from a variety of whole grains and legumes that have started germinating (sprouting).

Compared to white bread, which is made of refined wheat flour, Ezekiel bread is much richer in nutrients and fiber and does not contain sugar.

GraceWay is the real deal. They have so humbly and quietly helped women from all over the country (and even a handful from Canada!) overcome a ruthless, life-altering disease, right here in downtown Albany, GA, for nearly 20 years.

They have seen it all. They know what works and doesn’t work. They are experts in the field of addiction recovery and are euipped with the knowledge, experience, and tools to help you recover from your battle with addition — More-so than most facilities in the entire nation. They are not a 60-90 day facility who treats patients as a “one and done” before sending them back out into the world to fend for themselves and stumble to their defeat — You can stay for years, yes years, and have their guidance and support for a lifetime. Every person’s situation is different, and GraceWay customizes it’s program to fit your specific, unique circumstances.

We are so proud of this organization and feel honored to support and spread awareness of their mission. If you have a first-hand experience in working with GraceWay, then you know how special and rare of a place it is.

Today’s Special: Shrimp Po’ Boy with a side of Red Cabbage & Corn Slaw!

We were shocked at how busy we were this past Saturday in response to informing you all about our small selection of New Orleans-inspired menu offerings, so our Chef wanted to run something this week too!

Come and get it!

We are still loving the look of our new logo!

When designing it, we obviously wanted to include something relative to wheat (we are The Bread House, after all…), but did you know that windmills are also the universal symbol of life, serenity, resilience, self-sufficiency, and perseverance in a harsh environment? Given that we exist to support GraceWay Recovery by employing their residents and donating our earnings to keep their mission alive we could not imagine anything more fitting to represent who we are and what [who!] we stand for.

The residents we employ are the most resilient individuals we have ever known and are walking examples of what it means to persevere. Like with anything, it’s a humbling experience to watch something grow in independence and thrive against all obstacles. We hope that when they see it they are reminded of their own potential and the smoother road ahead.

Anyways, now you know our story behind it!❤️

Fentanyl lacing is a sobering new reality that everyone needs to be aware of.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is up to 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine, and it’s been finding it’s way into the drug supply all over the country.

On the left is a lethal dose of heroin, equivalent to about 30 milligrams; on the right is a 3-milligram dose of fentanyl, enough to kill an average-sized adult male.

If you are parent with a child at college, we strongly recommended that you stress the current risk in partaking in recreational drug use.

This is not just a “don’t do drugs!” truism from your local treatment center — This is a startling life or death phenomenon inflaming the current opioid pandemic we are in. Be careful and be smart!

Meet Kennedy Dutton — Kennedy is 10 years old and wanted to do something special with all of the money she saved up this year. She decided she would use her money to buy gift cards for GraceWay and the residents. Most of the residents were here today, so GraceWay sent her by to hand deliver them and we are so happy she did!

We are so flattered and blown away by her that we just had to share with you all!

Kennedy, thank you for thinking of our organization and for leaving us feeling so inspired by your thoughtfulness at this year’s end. We have not stopped smiling since you left!☺️

The Bread House & GraceWay

The Bread House is a health-conscious bakery and farm to table restaurant that supports GraceWay Recovery Residence. Our one hundred and eleven year old building is located in Historic Downtown Albany, just a block away from GraceWay’s facilities. GraceWay is a non-profit, women's addiction recovery community whose residents we employ and whose mission we attempt to help financially sustain. We strategically renovated our building to showcase it’s original features and honor it’s structural integrity.

Aside from being a bakery and restaurant, we also offer a specialty coffee and juice bar, venue space for private events, as well as an eclectic women’s clothing boutique upstairs called Vardo.

Blending Our Missions

We’re all rooted in something. At The Bread House, we are deeply rooted in the belief that a good, healthy meal has the power to bring people together, and that breaking bread with others is an experience that feeds and nourishes our souls as much as it feeds and nourishes our bodies.

I want to highlight one of the many incredible small businesses in our district: The Bread House located in Albany. In addition to cooking some of the best food in our district, founder Debbie Mazur built Bread House as a way to employ the residents of GraceWay Recovery Residence. GraceWay is a community that Debbie created back in 2009 for women recovering from substance abuse. It’s so encouraging to see faith-based businesses like the Bread House & GraceWay serving as a light in our community. Please check them out next time you’re in Albany and sow into their ministry!

Awesome lunch! Awesome staff! And Awesome environment! Merry Christmas!
If you wish to spread a little Christmas cheer this season, please stop by our restaurant and bakery, The Bread House, and take a card (or 3!) off of the “GraceWay Giving Tree!” The cards consist of small things the residents are in need of or things we need around the house. You can bring your generous gift back to The BH before Christmas!🎄🎁 As always, we are grateful for your support!
We've seen what our partner business, The Bread House, was doing with their #FrequentlyAskedFriday posts and we wanted to jump on board, too! When the phone rings at www.gracewayrecovery.com, we are typically met with a family member in crisis and at the end of their rope. Sometimes their loved one is ready to accept help and the next step is an admission screening, however sometimes the family is at a point where an intervention is necessary to hold with their loved one and they have questions surrounding how to handle that. What the next step in that process looks like if their loved one says yes, and finally what to expect once their loved on is in our care. We have developed a step-by-step approach for families who find themselves in this situation. Step 1: Recognize the Signs of Addiction/Alcoholism. Don’t wait for “rock bottom”. Addiction is a deadly disease and your loved one could die while you wait for an elusive “rock bottom” that may never appear. Step 2: Call our Admissions Line at 229-446-7800. Each admissions counselor at GraceWay is skilled in answering the most difficult questions and will guide you painlessly through this process. They understand what you’re going through and will provide honest and compassionate feedback. Step 3: Offer your Loved One this “Gift”. Your loved one will likely feel ashamed to admit she’s been struggling. While you are confronting her addiction, be sure to use “I” statements. This will help prevent your loved one from becoming defensive and shutting down. Though you will likely feel frustrated and angry, try and keep calm and stick to the facts. Encourage her to see this opportunity as a gift. She is getting a chance at a whole new life. Step 4: Cease All Enabling Behaviors. This is crucial, not only now, but long-term as well. Enabling is defined as doing for others what they can and should be doing for themselves. If you are making it easy for your loved one to remain in active addiction by paying her bills, for her groceries, and her living expenses, then why would she want to do anything different? You are taking care of everything for her! However, when you say “no more”, you are really saying that you will no longer be a part of the problem, and instead will finally be a part of the solution. If necessary, establish an ultimatum. Your loved one may become angry, and you will likely feel frustrated, but this is okay. Remember the bigger picture. Your main goal is to get her somewhere safe where she can begin her recovery journey and start to become whole again. Step 5: Follow Through! As soon as your loved one says yes, pack a bag and get her to GraceWay, or detox. This is a critical time period for your loved one. She will feel fear and she is going to want to use. She is going to think about changing her mind. Get your loved one to us quickly to let our trained staff handle everything from there. Step 6: Breathe. Your loved one is in a safe place now. She is beginning a whole new journey. We know you are tired. We understand your pain, anger, and disappointment associated with your loved ones past addictive behaviors. Once you get back home, read the family packet that was given to you by our admissions counselor. Addiction is a family disease, and you are an integral part of her individualized recovery plan. Step 7: Attend Al-Anon 12-Step Meetings. While reading GraceWay’s family packet, you will come to a section that talks about Al-Anon meeting requirements. We require that each family member attend at least 6 meetings before the first family workshop. The meetings are invaluable to you. They will provide you an opportunity to be a part of your loved ones recovery process by becoming a part of the solution. You have trusted us with your loved one. Now you need to trust us with your healing as well. You can find local meeting times and locations online. Step 8: Resist the Urge to Call and “Check” on Your Loved One. Remember that your loved one is in the hands of a staff of professionals. She is also surrounded by peers who are in the same situation and provide an additional support system for her while she is here. No news is good news. Your loved one will be very busy with daily 12-Step meetings and assignments and groups on the disease of addiction. She will be attending individual sessions and exercise classes. She will be eating a balanced diet. In other words, your loved one is in the hands of exactly who she needs to be in order to get the help she needs right now. Step 9: Educate Yourself on the Disease of Addiction and Enabling Behaviors. You may realize at this point that you have been enabling your loved one and are now wondering how you can change that. You can’t change your loved one, but you CAN change your behaviors and reactions toward her. Remember, if you are doing for her what she can do for herself, you are robbing her of her dignity. Step 10: Take Suggestions. Your loved one is here working hard every day. She is quite literally changing everything about herself; from her attitudes, behaviors, poor coping strategies, unhealthy ways of thinking and acting. This not only requires a lot of work, but TIME as well. She is being guided by counselors who have been where she is at. She is being given suggestions that she has to be open-minded enough to hear and willing to take and follow through with. You may be given suggestions by our counselors over the course of your loved ones journey at GraceWay. It’s imperative that you trust in the process, and follow through on your end as well. Step 11: Recovery is a process, not an event. There is no magic cure available for addiction. There are temporary “Band-Aids”; however that is not what we believe in here at GraceWay. We know that complete abstinence is the only way to lasting, long-term sobriety, and a life of happiness and joy. To find this your loved one will need to completely alter the way she copes with life, and this does not happen overnight. Time takes time. Everyone is different and that means that each resident’s time spent here is different. While one may benefit from a shorter program, the next may need much longer. We are set up for long-term treatment because we know that it works. Step 12: Embrace the three “C”s… You didn’t CAUSE it. You cannot CONTROL it. You cannot CURE it. You are not responsible for your loved ones addiction, and you are also not responsible for her recovery. She is. You cannot control your loved ones addiction. We are sure that you have spent fruitless hours trying to. You also cannot control your loved ones recovery. She has a Higher Power that is doing that now. Most importantly, you cannot cure it, and neither can we. We can however, offer her a solution that will give her the tools to walk in freedom one day a time
