To our Customers and Community,
After 10 really good years, our Oakland Cafe will be closing its doors on December 20th. This decision was not made lightly, and it comes after very careful consideration and hand wringing.
I remember first seeing the spot in 2014. It was just a giant patch of dirt, with a façade, no walls, no roof and just a single pole sticking out of the ground. I was there for 5 minutes when I knew it was the spot for our next home. I really wanted to build something great for a city I loved and I hoped the space would be part of a thriving Oakland.
When Firebrand opened its doors on Broadway 10 years ago there was an energy that was palpable and hope that new businesses coming to downtown Oakland would bring fresh new life back to a cherished community. We have continued to serve you through so many events that could have been business-ending. We’ve been through a large electrical fire, Covid, so many break-ins, increased theft and assaults (at times to employees and customers), although many of our neighboring small and large businesses alike closing all around us etc, etc, etc. The list of things we’ve dealt with could fill a book, but I am so incredibly proud of what was created and what we accomplished. I’m grateful and humbled by all the amazing people that made Firebrand go for all those years. As our lease comes to an end, I’ve been faced with the very hard decision to end our time in Oakland-it just makes sense on so many levels. Most importantly, closing our Oakland location allows us to combine our teams in our beautiful location in Alameda which is located only minutes away and has been going strong for about 3 years now.
My team and I are so excited to stoke the fire of creativity with all of our team under one roof and bring the same amazing breads, pastries, drinks, and food to you that you’ve known for almost 17 years’.
We have some surprises and upgrades in store for our Alameda café and though we are sad to leave Oakland, we aren’t leaving you-our customers. Come visit the café in Alameda, we’re just on the other side of the tunnel and we can’t wait to see you!
