We have plenty of cookies (frosted and assorted Holiday varieties) and do have a few whole items: Chocolate Babka, Pecan Pies, Pumpkin Rolls, Quiche (yes!), and even a couple cheesecakes and a Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie. We also have most of the suspects: cinnamon rolls, almond croissants, scones, crullers, chicken salad and egg salad sandwiches, carrot ginger soup, etc (but no bagels and no biscuits today). 🍲🥪☕
We intended to have bunches more, but the storm has left us short 2 staff members each day (yesterday and today), so we've had to cut some things we were hoping to have. But I stayed up ALL night to make sure we had plenty of frosted sugar cookies for the case, so we do have those. Frosted Sugar Cookies just might be my favorite thing about Christmas. 🎄 True, we make them year round, but the smell of them baking brings back fond memories of my mom making hundreds of these that Hilary and I would frost with a butter knife and decorate with a ziplock bag with the corner cut off, to give as Christmas gifts to family and friends.❤️🎅 Though does a decidedly better job decorating them than we did at age 10, there's just as much love in each one as there ever was.🥰
PLUS: We were so excited to finally find a bigger Santa face cookie cutter than the one we've previously used! He was pretty popular already so I have a feeling he's about to be the star of the show. 🌟 We make our Santas in a variety of skin tones, just like the Real Santa, who can be whatever you want him to be, because he's magic. 🎅🏿🎅🏾🎅🏽🎅🏼🎅🏻🎅

Seven years ago today we weren't ready and some of the paint was still wet, but we opened our doors anyway for the first time here at 76 East Mill Street in downtown Akron. 🧡 You can still find some of the same items we had that first day, like our Cranberry Orange Scones, Buttermilk Biscuits and Frosted Sugar Cookies (though they're fresh ones; we haven't just kept them in a cupboard for 7 years, that'd be disgusting), and some new ones too thanks to 's creativity and culinary genius.
A lot has happened these past seven years; Covid was a big one. But when life presents challenges, if you look hard enough in there is an opportunity. So we revamped our space, got rid of our dining room to expand our kitchen space, and hired a bunch more staff. Now we're producing about 4-6x what we were before covid, and able to pay our staff a lot more, too.
Running a business is hard work and not for the faint of heart, but no matter how much this place sometimes drives me crazy, it's still my happy place and I'm so proud of what we've accomplished over the last seven years. I have no idea what'll happen over the next 7, but we're ready for it. 💪

But two of them also have a place deep in our hearts, for and myself, in particular. They've been featured on our Holiday menu every single year since we first started this little business waaaaay back in 2006, but their history in our family goes back even further.
What we call Russian Tea Cakes, most of you call snowballs. So why do we insist on calling them by a name that most of Cleveland believes to be another pastry entirely? I blame that on my maternal grandmother.
My mom's mother died in 1970, when my mother was just 13. By all accounts, she was an amazing cook, but only left two of her recipes for her young daughter: Mac & Cheese and Russian Tea Cakes. While I adore her mac & cheese for it's comforting & homey memories, it's a definite "white people" version with zero seasoning and just one kind of cheese, so there's no need to wax poetic on it's account. The Russian Tea Cakes, however: 😍🤤 Finely ground walnuts, lots of good butter, a little flour, a little sugar, and a lot of mess, but the good kind where you don't care if you have powdered sugar all over your face because your mouth is so happy. We make these every year, and I always feel a little closer to the grandma I never met. ❤️
Our Candy Cane Cookies come courtesy of my paternal grandmother... kind of. My dad's mom was a force. A 4'10" tall woman who loved to be the center of attention, but gave as much love as she demanded. She loved her family and made a big fuss over Christmas every year. She wasn't a spectacular cook, but she put extra love into her Christmas cookies. Her almond-flavored butter cookies, colored and twisted into candy cane shapes were my dad's favorite, but my grandmother refused to give my mom the recipe. So my mom did as any good cook and figured it out herself. 😆
